I am thinking of fitting wheel spacers to my my2003 Boxster. At the moment 7mm shims on the front and either 15mm or18mm spacers on the back seem a reasonable combination.Jasmine orDesign911 do them.Anyone got any advice or further recommendations before I take the plunge?

IMHO: These are mechanical monstrosities and should only be used to accommodate non standard wheels so that the correct steering geometry is maintained. Spacers on their own will change the steering geometry and this is not for the better. No benefit except 'cosmetic'.

Except that there is a 5mm all round spacer option available for the 986 Boxster in its Tequipment brochure; I had them on mine and, whilst it didn't appear to alter the handling, the stance was much improved - despite the small increase in track. Also, if I recall correctly, Porsche approve 17 mm spacers for the 986 rears only.

I thought the tequipment advice was not to fit to carrera sport wheels as they are wider rims already - i'd double check with your OPC. The wider the front track, the more stone chips you'll pick up in front of the rear wheelarch :(

Had spacers on my 944, factory fit I think. They just go between the wheel and hub so take of the wheel and bolt it on with the spacer in the way.

My question would be why wheel spacers? I stand to be corrected on this but unless you compensate for the extra 6mm with wheels with a different offset your suspension angles will be altered affecting handling. You might need a full wheel alignment after fitting. Also putting the wheels further out will strain the bearings a bit more, not sure how significant this is on Boxsters.

If you can change a wheel you can fit the spacers yourself. [;)]

Just worried if 6mm is too big to fit without using longer wheel bolts, I think the 550's have 5mm spacers fitted as standard so there not going to do much damage to your handling but I'd check about the bolt length.

I bought the 6mm spacers from porscheshop.co.uk and they said longer bolts are not not neeeded.

I got ATS to fit the spacers for a drink, it took them over an hour to do all four!

Theyt widen the track by 10mm so they do affect handling slightly. You would only notice on track in reality. They do make the wheels fill the wheel arches better so cosmetically they look good. Depends if you wnat to spend the money on them. you get 4 wheel spacers and 4 sets of wheel bolts including the locking ones in the pack. For around £150 to £200 from your OPC from memory. I have them so they must be good! LOL.

I had a special edition 986 550 3.2 spyder with the spacers 10ml fitted as standard fit and 18inch wheels lowered suspension by 5ml and personally found it a harsh ride felt every bump etc .My current 987 2.7 has standard set up and 17inch wheels and far more comfortable ..just a personnel thing
