Wheel spacers

Hi people

Iam looking at wheel spacers ( maybe ) for my 987.1 , I have already lowered it with vogtland springs approx 30mm .
There plenty on the market of various sizes most common are 7mm , 9mm and 15mm . My question is which size to go for and would I have any rubbing issues . Note I have 19” lobster claw alloys . I thinking the 9mm ones .

I've used wheel spacers on all my 987's. I've had the OE 5mm Porsche spacers on my 987.1 2.7, 987.2 3.4S, and 987.2 CR, and tested various combinations of 6mm, 7mm and 9mm spacers during my motorsport competitions. The best combination I found was 6mm rear, and 9mm front on my CR.

I also tried 9mm on all 4 corners for faster tracks which seemed to work well. No wheel arch rubbing issues were apparent on my cars.

I still have in my garage the 6mm spacer pair, and the full set of 9mm spacers with extended bolts. I haven't experimented with spacers on my 718 Cs as yet.

I may decide to sell the spacers and bolts in the near future.

Hi Brian thanks for the reply , I have just lowered the car and got a 4 wheel hunter alignment booked in in Friday so the idea is to get the spacers on before hand I think I might go for the 9mm as the 15 ‘s would put the tyres dead flush with the arch , all this is just for looks really but if it improves handling on the odd track day I might do that will be a bonus .

Definitely have your spacers on before the Hunter geo re-set. I agree with your choice to try the 9mm first. They fill out the wheel arches just right and you may find a small benefit on track days as well.

9mm spacers fitted today, took about a hour doing it off the garage floor old school style jack and wheel brace .

Out of interest, do 5mm spacers require extended studs? What is the price, from Porsche?

Hi Oliver , Iam not to sure about the 5mm , I know the Boxster Aniversary has factory spacers I think about 5mm but not to sure if there use extended bolts or not , give a dealer a call thay should be able to tell you + price . Iam thinking now I should of gone bigger . I thought the wheels would come out more , but I suppose 9mm is probably the best as any bigger would look a bit extreme.

If you fit 5mm spacers, you are reducing the length of thread that runs in the hub.

Why would that be a good idea?

Check on the available lengths of extended wheel bolts, I think they are colour coded on the collars the parts man at the local OPC should be able to tell you what your standard bolts are and what others are available.

The OE Porsche extended wheel bolts that are supplied with 5mm spacer kit have red collars.

You will definitely need extended wheel bolts even with 5mm spacers.

I have 7mm spacers on the rear and my Porsche Centre had no information on bolt dimensions from their PET parts system beyond here is a kit of bolts and spacers. I needed to get black bolts because daft Cargraphics sent silver bolts for black wheels so workshop manager went round cars at Centre removing and measuring until he found a stock part that was 7mm longer off a non-centre lock GTS.
