Wheel Wobble

I recently had my front wheels re-balanced, due to wheel wobble when driving, they were quite far out from when the tyres were fitted (not that many miles previously) anyway they balanced fine - no wheel wobble.

Last Saturday I took the wheels off the car to paint the calipers and having driven the car today there is a hint of wheel wobble back (around 55mph) and I wanted to check to see if there could be any other cause before I spend another £20 balancing the wheels again.

Any comments welcome!

Have the weights fallen off maybe? Did they balance all four wheels? Presume they stuck the weights on the back of the rim - make sure you haven't lost a few somewhere.

Which wheel is it - if the wobble is through the steering wheel it's front obviously, through your butt it's likely rear - you can often feel which one it is that is out of balance especially if you are not driving and you move around in the car.

Have you re-checked your tyre pressures? Is there a stone stuck in a tread somewhere that is protruding past tread depth? Lots of things to check mate!

Similar to John Dan but in addition to checking tyre pressures undo all the wheel nuts and retighten them making sure they are correctly located on the studs, tighten opposing nuts as you work round the wheel and increase the final torque setting in stages.

Have any any liquid tyre repair products been put in any of the tyres ever ? Just a thought. It can cause all sorts of balance issues.

In reply to my replies (hang on does that actually make sense?)

Wheel wobble is on front wheels (feel it through the steering wheel), no stones lodged in the tyres but I will check the tyre pressures, and re-tighten & check the nuts. I can't see where any weights could have fallen off none on the outside of the rims, no clean areas on the inside to indicate an escaping weight. And finally no the tyres have definately not had any liquid tyre repair (I had the tyres put on the car only about 9 months ago ish)

Will have a go at the suggested ideas and post the results.

Try taking the wheels off again and clean the mating surfaces of the whels and hubs also try moving the wheels round one stud at a time. There can not be much wrong if the balance was OK before.

No, I haven't had a chance to look at the car yet - even though it has been so nice I've only used the car once[:(] I hope to have a look this weekend. I will keep you all posted!
