Wheeler Dealers and their 944 trackcar

It's on Tuesday night next week I think. Not decided whether to put myself through the pain of watching it yet Nick ! haha

Mike

Should be worth a look. I had a lot of discussion with them prior to buying the car, and then after they'd bought it. Turned out not to need much work, hence the trackday thing to make a programme. [&:]

Richard Marsden's car was filmed for the "before and after" bits.

I did offer to do a bit myself, and give a free year's membership to the buyer to add a bit of interest. They make ten of these programmes at a time, so the poor producer doesn't know if he's coming or going! [8|]

What channel?...

tight wad with Freeview only[:)]

More to spend on the 944 though.
Other end of the spectrum here ... given half a chance I'd get rid of the TV altogether. I can't stand the thing (it's worse since we got freeview) and I was much happier without one before I got married ...

Coincidence? You decide.....[;)][:D][:D]

1987 Porsche 944 Turbo - Episode 3
Mike Brewer is on the look out for a Porsche 944 Turbo to buy cheap, restore and sell on. But the used cars he finds are either no-hopers or way too expensive. Then he spots an ad on eBay"¦ can he win the auction and get a bargain classic car?
Mike delivers the car he finally chooses to Edd, who on inspection sees there is not much to do to bring this used car back to its former glory. Mike's answer to this is to get Edd to prepare it for a 944 track day. He reckons he'll make more money on this than if he'd left it in standard road spec. Will he be right?
1987 Porsche 944 Turbo - Episode 4
Wheeler dealer Mike Brewer has bought a 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo, and instead of refining it for the road he has asked star mechanic Edd China to turn it into a track car.
After Edd has finished with the car restoration, Mike and Edd head to Silverstone to really see what this modified Porsche 944 Turbo can do. Has Mike made the right decision to turn this used car into a track car, and more importantly, will it sell?

Ah yes, that is truly awful - should be renamed 'Sheds R Us'!

Why the track car?? Every car previously has been a road car, I don't see why they are changing the format the show. There's plenty of track day sheds to found anywhere, the beauty of the previous shows was they found a car for mild restoration to sell on for a small profit.

Problem is that 944s are either sheds that need massive work doing, as in loads of bodywork etc. that aren't in the programmes remit, or they are so good that there's not enough to fill the programme and make a profit. This seemed an different way to go, to try and keep the series interesting.

Wrong as far as I can make out.

At the end of the show fat boy quotes the cars cost to buy plus the parts and then the sale price. They never ever allow for Edd`s time spent on it, in reality they MUST always lose money.

It would be a much better show if it were Edd`s on his own. He always strikes me as a rather sensible chap and whenever he is talking it is always interesting (unlike fat boy who I have to admit I dislike intensely)

It could have been a lot worse. Remember the episode of Monster Garage in the US where they turned a perfectly good 944 into a Max Max looking golf ball collector?

Dead right. If you were to factor in the time spent, itd cost a fortune.....
Is it me or is Edd looking a bit "gay" with his new hair makover.????[8|][8|][8|] especially in the adds...

No TV I highly recommend, so money saved from TV licence to be spent on the next 944 fix, which for me today is a coolant leak on to my feet!

But, I do have a plasma "display" and a subscription to LoveFilm which I find is all the viewing I need.

I've got a couple of friends looking out for it, if one of them manages to get a digital copy I'll let everyone know.

Will be interesting to see what they do, as we all should know there is a massive difference between a track car that is a fiddled with road car made into a track slag and a proper race car. IMHO I haven't seen any evidence over the years that the former has much if any value and the latter takes a considerable amount of time and money.

Thanks - just watched it :)

At least they fitted some decent parts - shame they didn't do the belts though (or remove that K&N airfilter behind the rad []). I see they managed to fit the shocks without re-indexing [;)]

So the labour for all that was worth less than £1000? - I don't think anyone makes money converting cars into track machines.
- and £6650 was very steep for that car - you could have mine for around that price!
