Wheels- again!

I know the later cup cars ran 18" Speedline wheels and I believe these were fitted to the last RS's (model yr '93?) but is there documentary evidence? Not seen a contemporary road test, brochure or anything. Is there an update to the Service manual or a technical bulletin that covers this?

Not just being an anorak here - good practical reason.

Any ideas?

Hello Tony,

Long time no hear; hope all is going swimmingly. I do not have any info on model year 93 but the service and training manual WKD 497 620 for the carrera RS MY 92 does not mention the 18 inch wheels whatsoever.
Maybe someone else can elaborate?

Best regards,

Bert

Hi Bert,
Thing's are ok thanks. Yes, I've looked in the training manual too. Can't find anything to confirm this was part of the standard spec.

I have a set of the split rim 18" and these are the same as were fitted to the 968 RS Turbo.

9.5" et 61 and 8" et 52 I think.

These were used in the Cup series in 1993.

The1992 Cup series have 8 and 9.5 Cup 1s.

All this confirms my suspicion that 18's were never fitted as standard to the RS, only to the Cup cars.

Adrian Streather refers P.281, special order for RS 3.8 only 8J X 18, 9J X 18, 10J X 18 OR 11J X 18, 52, 48, 61 5mm offsets...

PORSCHE ADVICE: April 15, 1993 "Retrofitting 18" wheels on Porsche vehicles which did not have 18" wheels as original equipment are NOT ALLOWED." Due loosened bolts......threaded connections on front wheel carriers......fractures....in the front strut mounts....and in the body in the area of the rear suspension.....P.288

It's certainly the case that early 993's were not designed to accept 18" wheels --- this only became acceptable from a documented chassis number (which somebody will know)

Hi gay, I also run 18" original speedlines , Melv that is quite scary if it is true, I am experience some handling problemes at hight speed (130mph)and i think is due to old suspentions or bushes, could it be because of the size of the wheels?? 92 C4
