wheels and offsets

this has probably been asked a thousand times before but am after some new wheels for my 88 2.5 944 its got d90's on at the mo which are staggered and have been led to beleive are from a 944 turbo, have seen boxster wheels fitted to 944's and alsorts but am i still able to fit that type to mine as i know the later s2's have a different offset. basically im after finding out what offset i need to go for ive seen some wheels i like that are staggered 7" and 9" but the offsets are 55 and 70 respectively. would they be ok?
thanks in advance

All S2's have a 53 offset front and back, same as your '88 2.5, so virtually any wheel between 7 and 9 inches with an offset between 50 and 60 will fit perfectly.

A 9 inch wheel with an offset of 70 at the back will sit inside the arch quite a bit and look odd so you'd probably need a spacer to push it out a bit

Surely a 9" ET70 rear wheel will be located pretty much where Dr.Porsche intended? To be pedantic, that wheel would need an offset of 77.7mm which would actually inset it by a further 8mm. They arent sensitive to rear offset though, so 70mm or maybe even 65mm or more will work from a dynamic perspective.

sorry to keep resurecting this post but whats the min and max offset i could fit to front and back, im a complete retard when it come to all this stuff. seen some cookies with an offset of 44 on the fronts and 54 on the backs

ATS Cookie Cutters should be 23mm for the 7" rims.

On a late car the ideal is 52.3mm for a 7" rim. For each inch of increased with you need to add 12.5mm to the offset: so an 8" rim should have an offset of 65mm and a 9" rim ET78 (and a 7.5" rim and offset of 58.5mm).

On the rear the wheels can be inset less (whichll have a lower figure eg ET45) - the cars arent sensitive to rear offset so all that you need worry about if whether the wheel will actually fit inside the arch. Its hard to tell you whatll fit because a wheel of a certain width will fit at the rear with one offset, but not with another, so its easier to propose a size and offset and see whether people think itll fit. The fronts are easier - you need the sizes Ive mentioned above.

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp is handy.

shows the 9J 70 offset rears will sit out an extra 7mm but have 43 mm less inner clearance. (compared to standard 7J 52 offset) dont' know if thats a problem.

im guessing those wheels are off a 911? saw some cup 3s with same dimensions. ended up getting 16" one off a 968, 55 offset 7J front 8J rear.

bear in mind the tyres fitted also contribute to wether they'll fit.

having looked around im confused at what my offsets are anyway. on design 911 and porscheshop a 2.5 944 up to 87 is early offset type but mines an 88 and isnt listed. is this just the same as a 87?

they'll stick out waay too far on a late car.... you can use spacers if the offsets too high, but if the offsets too low you're knackered.

your standard offset is 52

have seen some 928 alloys that are 8 and 9" theyre polished and think they would look good but am struggling finding the offset on them, have been told that the 928 had a very specific offset and the wheels arnt interchangeable from 944's or 911's, is this right? :(

No. The Disc wheels offered as a Turbo option in 1987 & 1988 used one unique wheel and one 928 prefixed part. Theyll fit a late car, in all probability.
