Wheels for my 88 S

Hi all... Has any one got any info as to how far I can go with my wheels, fancy a new set, mine are as I am sure you know 16" 7J 8J and ET 52, 90 D's on both ends, all the wheels I like seem to be 9.5J or 10J on one axle, and off sets all over the place.
So were can I go with out completely trashing the ride or ripping the wheel arches off.... [&:]

There's a good thread in the FAQ about wheel offsets (I know because I'm looking to change mine as well) I'm currently running on 17 inch Boxster wheels and the majority of opinion says that you shouldn't go much bigger than this, I think that most people think the ride and handling is best on 16's but I prefer the look of the bigger wheels. You should probably think about changing to 968 castor mounts if you want a diameter bigger than the standard 16's

I originally had my car on 17" 993 wheels 8s at the front and 10s on the rear and it tramlined horribly, now back on standard 16" D90 and its massively better

Thanx guys, think I may stay with my D90's not having much look with after market wheels, kinda now the look I want, but not to fit this,,, [&:]

The only wheels to go for are 17" cup 1`s - 7.5 front and 9 rear but they are heavier than D90`s

No tramlining whatsoever but you`ll need to fit 968 castor bushes (not expensive and a DIY job)

Personal opinion only as I think they are the nicest wheels ever made so here`s a great opportunity for me to show what mine looked like [8D]

The only others I like on a 944 are the forged D90`s

I (personally) cant stand later Porker wheels on them.

The 17" look good in the arch Paul, better I feel than the 16", But 18" must have small tyre walls, maybe 40's,. whats the ride like on 40's..............

I am another exponent of Cup 1s in 17" I personally think they look great but that is my view. My S2 is on 17/255/40 and 17/225/45 and I would have thought to run 18" the profile would be more like 35-40%. I have a little issue with tramlining but not too bad and easily adjusted to, the ride quality is pretty good and not too bumpy even with profiles around 40% but not sure I would want to go any bigger than 17" I like some tyre as well as rim rather than all rim.

Lowering the profile reduces sidewall compliance

Modern steering geometry accepts this, old style very much less so.

Thats my view.

I found that well located 17" wheels worked brilliantly on todays pothole filled roads and with it properly set up and located (by located I mean renewed bushes etc) there will be no tramlining whatsoever.

The wheel i would have liked is the look of a wheel like Dotz Mugello, with a grey mid and polished rims. 8j on the Front? would it be a problem with the wheel arche on rough roads, rip it off is my worrie..............
