Wheels off the GT3

At the Reading health clinic back in January, the engineer pointed out what he thought was a nail in one of my rear tyres. The tyres still have 5mm of tread, so I wasn't best pleased, and I've been putting off examining the "nail" as the last time a tyre fitter removed my rear wheels he chipped a disc (PCCB) and incurred costs of >£6k.

However, today I grasped the nettle, avoided strong coffee, and took the wheels off for a severe look.

I found that by running the car up onto a 2" board, I could just get my trolley jack under the jacking point. By jacking JUST clear and using the recommended guide bolts, the wheels were gently removed (without any drama), the tyres washed and examined. Fortunately, no nail! But I did remove several small shards of flint before gingerly refitting the wheels.

By taking appropriate precautions and a degree of care, this was a straightforward exercise, and difficult to see how a "professional" tyre fitter could get it so badly wrong. Had a minor service on Friday and now I'm reassured that my tyres are good for a few thousand more miles looks like a cert to take this car to Le Mans Classic, and should be good for Wings n Wheels on these tyres too.

AND I am looking forward now to my day in court.

You need to invest in an aluminium trolley jack from Machine Mart, about £90.00 and will go under the car easily.

Machine Mart often have VAT free offers on, so 20% cheaper
