Wheels - Your thoughts?

Just having a little play, and thought I would see what the opinions of the 944 folk are [;)]

Black wheels with a silver rim always look awesome no matter what the style si I'd go with the D90's in the top pic [8D]

I have to say that i am diametrically opposed to Paul's opinion. I prefer the cup one wheels. I think they look especially good in 17 inch as on my Cab. I have a considered opinion on coloured wheel centres and black is not one of the colours I would connsider, no offence. Yellow peril's 968 looks fantastic with speed yellow rims but again they are cup one wheels IIRC. Don't you think that black hides a lot of the design features of the wheel in the first place?

You want us to agree on wheels??? [:D][:D] Personally, I don't like the second or third; possibly the cups with coloured centres, but I just prefer the wheels they came on when new. The D90s look good on your car, but a little voice inside my head is beginning to mutter that black or dark grey wheels are a bit, well, last year? [8|] What'll be the next trend? Smaller wheels that weigh less, cost less to tyre, and ride better? Perhaps in Silver? [&:]

I have just shown the three pictures to my wife and these are her abbreviated comments D90 "nothing, stupid-looks like someone had a go with a paint brush" Cup one wheel, "very claasy" The other one, "nasty, tacky ugly" I stress that these are her off the top of the head thoughts, not mine, and much as I hate to agree with our esteemed R/S and moderator, black is very much 2012.

As has been said, the first one looks the best. Cup1's in 16inch are a long way short of the beauty of Cup1's in 17inch. Funny how the slight difference in size makes them so much less attractive. The third option is terrible, in my opinion. John(924nutter)'s wife is spot on. Oli.

Not sure any are quite right to my eye - although they will all look better with a few mm off the ride height (I know that's a touchy subject) [:)] The top pic looks the best, but maybe it's just the angle 16" cups look great on most 944's but I'm not sure on Andy's - maybe they are better with lighter colours? 16" teledials would be a good choice.

Thanks guys & the nutters wife[:D][:D] Keep them thoughts coming! As most know I had the 18"s on for 10 years and loved them, when I got the D90's I hated them, the cups it's the first try. I now prefer the D90's, I am thinking maybe paint the spokes black on the cups? spacers? The Sport Design 18" have had there day on my 944 Not worried about black being so 2012, I drive a 1980's car [:D] And Ed you should know better very touchy subject [:D][:D]

1 D90s OK (not necessarily with black centres, though) 2 ‘Cups’ look too small for the car 3 Er, too big.

That's kind of my point; the design is a seventies one on your car (with the S2-turbo being early-80's and the 968 very late '80s). I think putting wheels, or colours, that are 30-plus years newer looks wrong. I love the black wheels, and yours look fine to me, but through choice I'd prefer standard colour. The same with clear lenses, modern ariels, pretty much anything takes away from the design if it's an otherwise original car IMO. Just a personal thing, and I'm certainly not one for concourse-style originality obsession, but I think Porsche tend to get their designs pretty spot-on. Gen 1 Cayenne excepted [:'(], although doesn't the new one look good?

I maybe a touch bias here but I like cup 1 wheel, I think the colour of the car has a big part in wheel choice too though.

Cup 1 wheels for me too. They look wrong on the 968 and 964 they orginally came on, but they work surprisingly well with the bodywork of the base 944, suggesting the car looks 10 years younger than it actually is, I think.

I also like the Cup 1's but not sure if it's because of the picture or not but the rears seem like they might need a small spacer.
