When did the 3 spoke steering wheel become standard?

I'm currently looking for a 996 with a GT3 kit and I was under the impression that the 3 spoke steering wheel became standard on all MY 1999 996s when the clear indicator facelift happened. Is this correct or was it not until the 3.6 was introduced? I'm specifically looking for 3 spoke wheels to differentiate between genuine facelift cars and pre-facelifts with retro fitted clear lights. Of course, someone could have retro fitted a 3 spoke on an earlier car, so what other differences are there between the facelift and pre-facelift 3.4s?

I re-read Peter Morgan's buyers guide last night which also confirmed the date. I'm currently in the process of selling the Boxster and looking for a 996 and learning about the detail as I go. The buyers guide and model variants pdfs have now been printed and commited to memory.
