When did you check your S/S2 cam chain tensioner

I did some electric work to a S2 in May. When owner picked up his car i told him to check out cam chain tensioner. Somehow i heard some odd noise from the engine. Now this S2 came to me again for some service. I also checked out chain tensioner. I was a little pit surprised when i saw the tensioner. Something was missing.

Crikey, that must have been noisy, and as well as the slipper pad missing where are all the filings! I'd say he got lucky, when my slipper pad let go it got stuck between the cam chain and sprocket you can guess the rest![][]

Here is the picture of my car just after I bought it...

this is a picture of one i've worked on, a tiny piece of metal swarf from it had got jammed in the oil pressure switch, resulting in no oil pressure and a total engine stripdown...

Crumbs. Those are engines on borrowed time. I'm amazed at the tensioner in the photo Olli - I presume it had worn the underside of the chain fairly badly as well?

Oli.

Actually underside pad was in good condition like chain as well. I am not worried about the upper pad. I suppose i found it under the intake manifold........
Owner of this car bought it two years ago. Seller claimed that the belts and pads were replaced two years earlier. That might be a case but most likely it was put back together without upper pad. Actually noise was not that bad, it was just strange. Anyway, i will install new tensioner, pads, chain & belts during next week when i get all necessary parts. Oil will be changed as well, so it will give me a possibility to check out if there is any interesting findings.
