So I get into the GTS at the weekend and computer says 29 days to service-
Not what I was expecting because a) car is not two years old until 9th September and b) mileage has just tipped over 17 k. So I phoned my OPC who say "don't worry you are just getting a warning with plenty of time in case you are planning a long trip, just ignore and bring it in in September when it's 2 years or before if you hit 20 k.
Is this normal? Does not feel quite right to me
Anyone put my mind at rest
Thanks tony

Tony,

Mine correctly showed the second anniversary for the service but I had done only 13k miles so presumably it is applying some algorithm to the (higher) mileage just as the fuel range predictor does (and not always getting it right). So predictions less good than a diary...

Thanks, that's what I probably expected , although I would like to see the algorithm that takes 5 k miles from November to June and extrapolates that to a further 3 k in the next 29 days!(probably the same software that controls the rather erratic satnav[;)][;)])

I think the answer is the clock starts ticking from manufacture completion date. My last car was nagging for its first service a month early as well. Always OK from then on. Your PC will turn it off for you or just ignore it.

You may have hit the nail on the head here! I was living my life vicariously at the weekend watching the videos of the tour and Millau Bridge ,so perhaps that bond between man and machine is as strong as we think

That may be the more down to earth explanation- I was up at CoG at the weekend and with some of the plastic casings off I could see they were stamped manufactured July 2011- so that could tie with a July build finish as you point out starting the countdown.

I had the same thing happen coming up its first service at 2 years and 19500 miles ... About a month early. Gues the OPC resets it correctly.
