I was out in my car before for a little drive. I have just moved it around my drive and i could here the fan running in the engine compartment. I opened the engine lid and the fan stopped and when i shut it again it started up again. Engine oil and water all normal on the gauges. I cannot recalling hearing the fan before when the engine was running, when should it be running?

Sounds normal to me. The fan will run when the engine compartment temperature exceeds a certain limit.

I must admit after a week of driving, I haven't noticed it until today. I will check it in the morning. I did nip out to it an hour after posting this on the forum and it started running when I started up the engine. Thanks for the reply

Well i have started her up this morning and no fan has kicked in [;)] When i open the engine lid yesterday, it was warm in there but no excessively hot. I am guessing as soon as i moved away and started to drive then the fan would have knocked it self off, quite an ingenious design. The Porsche guys have always been on the ball, i do like how the 924 gets how and the fans kick in when stuck in traffic at 3/4. Thanks for the help.

This does seem normal. Bear in mind the engine lid fan works independently on it's own sensor measuring that air temp in the bay, and not in conjunction with the coolant fans, which are in the front. Therefore, it'll click in and out as needed (And often on restart after a run as heat-soak will have warmed the bay up considerably)
