WHERE ARE ALL THE 964RSs FOR SALE

Usually about this time of year there are a few LHD/RHD cars knocking about PP etc from privateers, noticed over the winter only a handful of cars about, the usual dealers in Germany listing a few, mainly same cars as UK dealers, rumours are the Germans are in town buying them back amongst others. Maybe I'm missing something here but would be keen to know of any PRIVATELY advertised LHD/RHD in the UK, just for interest and the few enquiries I get.[8|]

Even the ones that are advertised aren't when you call up about it. I wanted to buy the Midnight Blue car advertised in this months magazine, but he has changed his mind.

I rest my case[8|]........................

I had toyed with the idea of flogging the RS and using the proceeds for Ultima parts. But 1) I would hate to part with it; 2) the value has been creeping up (someone was looking at 27k when I decided not to sell) and 3) I went out with Melv in his Cup car at Bruntingthorpe and was reminded how effective they are... he went through the traps at a measured 170mph which was only 6mph shy of 400bhp 100k Ferrari 360 Modenas. And they wouldn't handle like an RS, but cost more to run in terms of servicing and depreciation. Maybe if someone offered 30k, but even then what do you replace it with? (For me it would be a Caterham Superlight R and keep the change for the Ultima build).

I nearly sold mine due to the divorce but decided to keep hold of it(the phone ddi'nt stop ringing) . I always get occasional thoughts of "what am I doing owning what amounts to an expensive toy" problem is as domster says is , what do you replace it with. I have tried 993's and Boxsters and I'd really like to own one of those but I just don't think I could part with the RS for one.

There is no substitute, everyone who has sold, always regrets and tries to return to the fold........[;)] Everything else is diluted even the 993RS and more so the lovely GT3....

All things being well I will never sell the RS.

I have owned many cars over the years right across the spectrum and had the privalage of having such cars as 360's 550's SL55 etc.....as company cars. I can honestly say that nothing has given me as much driving pleasure and overall ownership pleasure as the RS. Seems strange and only us 964 RS wierdo's will understand why I guess.

I'll sell everything around it first.

mind you thats not to say the wife won't sell it. (Keep your eye on PP)

pitty its raining....

As long as its only a lump in your throat...

Not sure why I got so emotional.....end of the week and all...weekend and time with the family...gets you like that sometimes..

The other thing about 964RS ownership is that you suddenly start seeing excess weight in most other sports cars (like those dratted cupholders) and think owners of 'softer' machinery like 360 Modenas and 996TTs are a bit, well, poncified. I personally don't find the ride too hard in a 964RS but most people seem to want their sports cars as a DFS sofa.

I am nuts tho', Ultima will be fully rosejointed.

[:D]

Dom,
speaking as one of the 'softies', on a race track RS or cup suspensions is great but on minor roads where the local council seems to encourage heavy goods traffic just to break up the minor roads (anybody else live in Leics?) it was just too keen to throw me in the ditch. Slight softening of the 'bump' rate on the dampers has worked wonders - no more ABS pulsing braking hard into bends no more leaping across the carriageway!

On the main topic I went through the sell/don't sell loop last year - have decided the car now serves as combined investment/insurance - if the house falls down or I get struck by lightning (I've been struck by lightening!)- well then maybe I might start thinking about whether I ought to consider selling it [;)]

LOL, you are right Tony. A softer front end is a bit more sensible... I have flown the RS before now on bumpy roads... eek. I am just a bit certifiable. I think 9m recommended 993RS front dampers or something; I have a set of those babies at home (up for sale to 993RS owners) so I could swap if I wanted. Maybe just drive slowly on bumpy roads and nail it on track when it's smooth...

Having just done a little more research on the pan-European market I can confirm that the very rare mint low kilometre cars from which we must take as our benchmark and work backwards in LHD terms are now £40,000, this time last year similar cars were £35,000...there is still the maverick museum car which on mobile.de was up for £60,000 had only covered a handful of kilometres.........so a year on year appreciation of 12.5% would seem spot on.

Dom, change the struts its worth it - springs rates on 993RS & 964RS are I believe the same (same part no. anyway!) but dampers are significantly different on bounce I think (there was a big discussion on rennlist last yr that gave most of the data)

Hi Tony

Interesting stuff... espesh as I have the Bilstein yellows lying around doing nothing at the mo. Definitely worth considering. Will chat to my tech later.

Cheers
Dom

General feedback from talking with various retailers is that the decent sub 30K LHD car will soon be in the past. They confirm a lack of stock with owners holding out and keeping hold so the market is set for another hike..........I would guess 15% this time next year.........[8|]

good hyping up the market going on - you planning on selling your car soon Des? [;)]

Who me hyping the market Matt![;)]

Selling the RS are you completely potty (your head must be suffering from that daily drive in the clubsport!).....what would I replace it with? Cup Car, 3.8 RS/R or a clubsport these can be the only options, the lightweight does me just fine nice balance for road and the odd track day......as Dr. P intended.

Now where are those 964RS's for sale someone sitting on them somewhere.......

My girlfriend has decided to go to University in september, so there is a chance that I'll be selling mine over the summer (even though I only got it in October). I really don't want to, but I suppose the mortgage has to come first....I need to do the sums and see if I can afford to keep it.

Rent a spare room off to a non-smoking female while the girlfriend is away at University AND KEEP THE RS!!!!![;)]
