Where are the drain holes?

The other problem is the soaking wet carpets on the passenger side, both in front of and behind the seat, but more so behind the seat. I'm looking for the drain holes in the doors, the drain holes in the engine bay and the drain holes in the sunroof area - HELP? I found vents in the doors that if I look into, I can see the door lock bits, etc. Is this the channel water is supposed to run down? Hmm ....

As for the engine bay, behind the engine wall on both sides of the car, near where the wiper motors are located, I presume the drain channels are there somewhere. I see 4 big circular yokeybobs, 2 on each side, but there is something in them (ie something that looks like it should be there, a covering of some sort), and there is also a tiny vent sort of thing near them. Is that what I'm looking for? Doesn't sound right.

And haven't taken out the sun roof yet because I don't believe the water is running down the sides of hte interior, it seems to have only soaked the carpets.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Hi Paul,
The drains under the bonnet are fairly close to the hinges behind the engine wall. If you stand towards the back of the drivers side wing you will probably see a load of stickers directly in front of you and slightly further away on a lower ledge a black canister. The drain hole is on this lower ledge about midway along and due to the shape of the structures its obscured from easy view - this drain appears to be at a fairly shallow angle so don't expect to see look down into it.
If you pour a little water into this area you'll see where it wants to go and this should lead you in the right direction. The exit point for the water is behind the front wing. The other side is a mirror image

I expect pre 85.5 models (and possibly LH drive cars?) that have their battery located behind the engine wall may obscure the drain hole to some extent.

In my experience these being blocked will give you wet feet under cornering!

The drains in the bottom of the doors was covered in a thread called "damp seatbelt" a page or two back, hopefully this should help.

The sunroof leaks can be a little more difficult to pin down and best to get an assistant to hose the car whilst you're inside. You can often hear the leaks even if you cant see them.

Hope this helps.
Best regards,
Peter.

I have returned from holiday to find a damp patch on the carpet near to the accelerator pedal. Could this be due to a blocked drain hole in the bulkhead area ? I'll check it out next weekend.

I had wet behind my drivers seat and found my door was filling with water and when it got to a certain level. It would leak into the car slighty. It would come through the screw holes etc etc.

Sunday, i took the door card off, theres a ridge which collects the water and has the drain holes in. Mine was full of shit, stones and glass. Took me 2 hours to clear it with a very small punch and small flat head screw driver! Also i redone the membrane.

Rained yesterday and no swimming pool in the door and no damp carpet of condenstation!
