Also note with both expensive options you get a nut protruding to the inside whereas with mine I have a second bung so it's smooth black rubber on both sides. You pays your money.
I'm not sure what mirrors you mean, but Demon Tweeks for instance do a range of period door mirrors in numerous styles in both black and chrome. You might get some sort of areo shell suppsoedly for a 944 from Club Autosport or similar, but knowing their kit it would probably fit the rear window as well as the front. Or possibly the front wishbone [8|]

I was very tempted by them, but decided that for a road car they wouldn't offer enough visibility (especaily if you're wearing a harness). Simon Davidson has something similar on his track slag (it's a generic part from memory) and I know he's remarked on this too since then. For this reason I went for the Spa GT mirrors, they're almost as wide as the standard ones but quite a bit shorter in height and an awful lot lighter. Quite how they'll last on a road car I'm not sure, give me a few months and I'll get back to you []

I'm sure you'll realise you'll have to have some paintwork done with all these options, I suspect the Cup mirrors (meaning the 968 style, and not the other Cup mentioned above, boy this is confusing!) are the only ones where you might get away without doing any painting, but I suspect you're like me and find them a little too modern looking for the appearance you're going for (I think they look ace on a Turbo, but I'm not so sure on the earlier body style (sorry Paul! [])).
Whassat? What mirrors do I have? Teardrops...

If there was a decently lightweight version of them then I wouldn't have changed either (but I think bare carbon teardrops would really suit your car []).

Forgot to add, when talking of the other mirrors did you mean like the ones that appeared on the Cup racers? (please see pic attached) They're quite similar to ones that appeared on the early VW Golf/Rabbit, however the bases are different apparently.
Thats the jobbies! I had a very close up look at both a cup car and a 924 carrera GTS, they both had these which to my eyes have/had a top part that is as near as dammit identical to early golf. The base though is completely different, I had some close up pictures somewhere and they don't look like any standard base I could find which is a shame because they would look great on a track modded 944 if all you had to was get some golf/golf clipper mirrors and mate up with a base from another car. ISTR that when I asked around the idea seemed to be that the base was bespoke for Porsche motorsport so likely insanely expensive, if they even have any.

No, the Promax option is two matching flat metal halves that screw together with rubber O-rings seated in grooves for grip and protection of the glass.

Hi Neil,
these were the ones I've fitted to my 924S, as a token nod to its 924 Carrera ancestry. Still available from OPCs, listed in PET as 477 857 521 D for option M 637. Nice & rugged. As for insanely expensive, they're cheaper than 968 cup teardrops, which I considered, but dismissed, as in London districts, these now form an alternative currency to Euros, drugs and Pounds Sterling for the chavs.
Base attachment visible here Sligtly smaller than the flag mirror base, but not difficult to get a decent fit.
