Where did this RS end up?

Back in early 2006 when I was looking for my RS I drove a 400 mile round-trip to "GC Motors" in Harrogate to view the white RS Lightweight in the picture below. £26,990 and a claimed (no evidence) 350bhp.

I didn't buy it - but remember calling Des on my way home to moan about the lack of good RS's around at the time - it was this conversation which resulted in me viewing Des's car in Greenwich and the promise of first refusal if he was EVER to sell it again. Fortunately for both of us he found the mint green CS a few months later.

I haven't seen the Harrogate car again since, but I've always wondered who bought it.
Anyone recognize it and know where it is now?

If I recall this one was a total wreck, poorly repaired with non original parts and seats....I could be mistaken.....and then was reduced to £22,000.......[]

This was the one that went through 911 Virgin. I think it was up for £25K. Henry might shed some light if you give him a call.

That white Virgin Henry car he sold about 2/3 years back, I recall that had the wrong seats from the ad at the time....

I remember seeing it at a Castle Coombe track day. Looked ok from a distance but the guys who were in it said it needed quite a bit of tidying.

Interestingly, the car that was sold by 911 Classic not that long ago (red, LHD, plenty of track use) seems to have resurfaced for sale at http://www.sussexsportscars.co.uk/ although I think they will be lucky to get what they are asking for it.

Might be on SOR for the owner?

Does anyone know if they have a Ferrari F40, chassis no 80852 for sale? I'm finding hard it to tell from their stock list [;)]

Seriously I would give a kidney for that car though [:)]

Cheers,
Bryn.

why didn't you buy it Rich?

I spoke to the dealer on the phone. He gave me a good description of the car and everything sounded great. I then asked him if it had any crash damage and explained this didn't worry me as long as it had been repaired properly. He said he really didn't know if it had been previously damaged and it would be worth me driving half way across the country to see it.

I drove the 200 miles to Harrogate. Within about 5 minutes of getting there (including time spent using his facilities on arrival) I was ready to turn around and go home.

It was obvious both front wings had been replaced quite badly, and the spare wheel tray was thickly painted (far more paint than it should have). I remember the left rear wing/side had been replaced too, there was overspray everywhere and the paintwork was quite 'matt' in places. The rear bumper had been replaced with the correct RS section, but had no number plate lights.

The only engine modification from what I could see was a 0.75litre Castrol bottle cable-tied to the manifold and was acting as a collector for the crankcase breather.

The car was a dog. Maybe it would have been fine for someone to buy, fix-up a little and use it in anger on the track. But this wasn't the car for me. I'm sure it's out there somewhere and has hopefully been brought back from the sorry state it was in.

I just wish the guy was more open on the phone - would have saved me the journey. Still, it showed me what I DIDN'T want to buy.

My call to Des on the way home ended with an invitation to view his car in London... and, after seeing his car, a promise that he would give me first refusal should he ever sell (followed by the story of him owning the car, selling it, buying back again for more money, and that he would never sell it again).

He did sell it again...
