Where do I cut!!??

Attached is a photo of the underside of the badge panel from my 84 Lux, sans bumper, which needs to be removed so that I can re-attach the badge and also so that I can get it re-sprayed.

My question is simply where do I cut? Some may re-call that the early 944 badge panels are bolted and spot welded on, I suppose just in case the bolts disintegrated into dust, so unlike you lucky buggers with the earlier models, its not simply just a case of undoing a few awkward bolts.

Any pointers would be gratefully received

Dont cut anything! Drill out the spot welds! Then, paint and fit a series two (1986 model years onwards) bolt on badge panel.
 
Normally from the top of the panel where the spot weld has made a dimple, buy a spot weld removing drill bit looks like a small hole cutter and then you drill through the top layer of the panel and spot weld, you might need to lever the top panel away depending on how well the spot weld had a grip. Using a spot weld removing tool prevents you from drilling through both panels and leaving a hole which then cant easily be welded up, alternatively if the welds are small and you are going to replace the panel with a bolt on one then you could drill through both panels and use the holes for the bolts.
 
Badge panels used to be worth £100 and cost £130 new and they were in high demand. Now, no one wants them and theyre worth nowt. Id remove the old weld on panel and discard it - itll probably be damaged anyway. Buy a good 1986-1989 original pattern bolt on panel, ideally in the right colour and have that prepared and painted (if its a different colour then remove all of the original finish) and use this on your car.

Weld on badge panels went NLA years ago and Porsche superceded them with the bolt on panel that I have suggested. Cheaper, easier and better.
