Where do you get your parts from?

As the title says really. Just looking for peoples recomendations for parts suppliers. Mechanical bits, electrcail stuff, accessories and what have you. I've so far used Rick @ Carnell (?), who is brilliant, and PorscheShop.co.uk but i'm having a bit of trouble with them, ordered stuff weeks ago, money's gone but no sign of parts and no replies to my queries.
Where do you go?

Rick is eastendr on here and unless he's branched out beyond vinyl lettering his parts are his personal spares. Some people like Porscheshop and others don't. Personally I think they are expensive compared with other places and you usually can get what you want cheaper elsewhere.

As I said on the other thread Exeter OPC is good for dealer stuff. Bert at Berlyn Services is excellent for new mechanical bits, Simon at Porsch-Apart is good for used stuff. In terms of accesories, trim and unnecessary dress-up parts there is Prestige Parts, Design 911 plus several others.

Darren,
Try :- Europarts (not sure of their web address)
German & Swedish http://www.gsfcarparts.com/
Exeter OPC (Parts Manager is apparently very good on 944 parts, I would imagine someone on the forum will furnish his name)
For 2nd hand and new Porsche parts Porsch-Apart (Simon Butterworth) http://www.porsch-apart.co.uk/ 01706 824 053 Simon, Dave and Steve all knowledgeable, Dave especially on electrics.
Bert at Berlyn Services
Ebay

Cheers,

You are not alone. They can be frustrating to deal with but, in my experience, come good in the end.

For standard parts I would try Bert Gear at Berlyn, or your OPC. Both are often cheaper than PorscheShop. Bert is a great place to start as, if he doesn't have the part, he will often tell you where you can get it. European Car Parts are also worth contacting.

For tunning parts you mainly have to look to the US with Lindsey racing being at the top of the list. ProMAX import a lot of Lindsey Racing gear and it is worth asking Andrew for a price. It may or may not be cheaper but at least you know exactly what you will be paying. Buying from the US direct is a bit of a lottery as to whether you will be stung for import duty or not.

Jon at 9xxxxxxx is also developing a lot of interesting tuning parts and is very hands on (as is evident from his postings) so is also worth talking to.

The cheapest place to get parts is Eurocarparts Leeds who give big discounts if you mention 'Porsche Club forum' discount: there is a thread about this on the 944 sub-forum, do a search and you'll find it.
I had trouble with Porscheshop too, until I sent them a (second) letter that threatened small claims court action if they didn't sort it out (they did, promptly). They didn't answer my emails either, have you tried phoning (I confess I didn't). Alternatively, if you used a Mastercard, call your chargeback department and intiate one.

Some of us garlic eaters have found the guys from Paragon Products to be pretty comprehensive with the unpleasant 19.8% VAT on imported goods. They conveniently practiced "declared shipment value massaging" on several occasions.

I've used ECP Leeds on several occasions, however, the last time I got a quote from them for around £500 worth of parts the discount quoted was quite disappointing i.e. 4% here, 7% there - definitely not enough to say it was a big discount. Perhaps I got them on a bad day - has anyone else had this experience?

Not used Leeds recently but my Local ECP in Poole gave me a 10% discount without too much pushing,

It depends upon the parts. For small relatively cheap items I tend to find my local OPC (Nottingham) is hard to beat. I have always got a discount around 15% to 17.5% without asking as well.

I have also used Berlyns for more expensive parts and have bought the odd thing from Eurocarparts.

I've got 2nd hand stuff from Porscheapart and PH Sportscars.

And when I go on a trip to the states with work I use Lindsey Racing or Paragon and bring the parts back with me to avoid shipping costs.

I've also used Promax for their off-the-shelf performance bits and Halfords for those consumable items.

I've also used Essential Styling for a few bits and bobs too.

I'm looking forward to using Jon at 9xx as his short shift kit and recurculating oil catch can are fairly high up on my shopping list.
