No smart alec replies please!

I have asked my supplier for the engine number and he cannot find it, I have referred him to the supporting paperwork, but if it is not there where exactly will we find it on the vehicle?

Not sure about where on the vehicle, but in the Guarantee and Maintenance booklet (the service one with the stamps) it is stated on the label stuck in to the front (Chassis & Engine number, paint code, options). This is the duplicate of the one under the front boot (if it's still there).

Following info courtesy of Rennlist:

If you look at the S/N on the bottom left side of the case next to the sump you will see a number like: M9603AT665XXXXX Which is a M960 engine (M960 3) that is a rebuild unit (AT) 6 cyl (6) , version (6), manufactured year (5), and the rest is the actual S/N

I've been told that it is 66402665 which for a 996 first registered in 09/2003 does not seem to make sense according to what Rennlist say (which I am not disputing as I know no different), oh well.
