where is this road?

Interesting question! It's not the road over to applecross, far too wide! It does look a bit like the road above Braemore Junction but Loch Broom is in the wrong place and I think the hills on the right are too steep in the picture. The modern crash barrier is a good clue because they are pretty rare. What about the drop down Glen Shiel towards loch Duich? I'm not sure it has any crash barriers.

Thks Mike and Mark,

Followed both on googlemap, similar looking great roads but think the hunt goes on.

cheers Darren

That is the newly re-constructed link from Achnasheen to Kinlochewe. Until a few years ago this was one of the worst sections of single track road in the Highlands, but they have truly gone to town on the replacement. It is about a dozen miles or so long, and must be the best dozen miles of road in the whole of the UK. This has not gone unnoticed by the bike and car magazines who have been encouraging petrolheads to sample it. As a result, don't be surprised to find that it now patrolled, or has a camera van on it, especially at peak times. Enjoy, but take care!

I think Mr Hunter is correct

I have good reason to remember that road. Some years ago I took an English friend on a long promised lap of the Highland by motorcycle. It rained torrentially from the moment we left, for the whole trip, and going through those roadworks in tipping rain, mud everywhere is forever etched on my mind. Possibly the most horrible ten miles I ever did on two wheels. []

Yup, that's it exactly. A little bit of the Nurburgring transplanted to a Scottish hillside. Enjoy. [;)]
