Guys, Just fitted a new JVC headunit and I can get any radio signal at all? I have wired it all up correctly including the radio atenna accessory wire, yet nothing . . .where is the antenna? and what purpose is the antenna accessory wire?, as it isnt a motorised unit is it? I cant see anything visable on the external of the car or am I just blind?

Regards . . .

Antenna should be in the windscreen. I think there is some sort of signal booster / supressor (I couldn't work out what it was when I removed it from mine) that the wires from the antenna pass through before it reaches the back of the head unit.

Can't remember if this booster / supressor is powered though and it's too cold to go hunting in the garage!

Scott,

If the 944 uses the same system as the 964, the aerial in the windscreen provides a weak signal which is "boosted" by a small amplifier mounted under the dash. That amplifier must be supplied 12 volt power from the head unit - usually from a powered aerial supply - in order to provide a usable signal to the head unit.

Hope that helps

Dave

yer somewhere there will be a small black cable usually taped to the antthat cable wants to go to a live feed as uve fitted a new radio attach that cable to the electric ant cable from the head unit and that shud do the trick

Thanks for clearing that up, although I have check the wiring and all seems well - but still no signall @ all? The radio worked with the previous unit so I can t understand what the issue is - the actual coax antenna connector seems lightly different (no outer shroud bit) Can I test this amplifier assy? and where abouts is it?

I know you've probably checked already, is there a security code required by your new head unit before it will work ?

you need to ensure that the antenna booser cable (the little black one bundled as part of the main antenna cable) is connected to the (usually, although check the installation manual on your new head unit) blue wire from you head unit. that blue wire is the signal to a normal powered antenna to raise up. If it still doesn't work, chances are that the booster is kaput!

Can you guys point me to the location of the booster assy, I would like to check the continuity of the signal wire from the join on the head unit. (It worked on the old radio - before I removed it?)

mine is on the right a-pillar (but then i do have a lhd.) I guess it's in a similar place though as that's where the connector to the screen is. It's a little black box, about 2" square.

Search. I have cross-posted aerial fix instructions about once every three weeks between here and Titanic, but it's all there to be found without having to do that.

All is now working, it was my own fault - the unit comes with a lead that allows remote control which the antenna actually fitted into! (there was a female on the back of the unit)

God I felt stupid!
