Where to buy a 3.2 Carrera?

Hello,

I'm brand new to the club and was hoping to get some help. I'm looking to buy my first porsche, and I've fallen for the 3.2 Carrera. In particular a G50 model. I've looked around Paul Stephens and tried a few private sellers, but I've not found the right one. Can anyone recommend the best places/websites/dealers to visit?

Also would appreciate any suggestions of what I should expect for a budget of around £20,000. Should I expect a car with a certain mileage, engine rebuild, faded paint etc?

Thanks
Jamie

Hi Jamie,

Welcome to the club!
You can get a good Carrera 3.2 for your budget, but you can also get your fingers burnt. The market for these cars has woken up recently and they appear to be rapidly increasing in price (and rightly so) - although whether they are being sold for the prices asked is another matter (but isn't it always?). You certainly won't get a low mileage, original (unfaded) paint, no rust, no leaks, perfect interior, example for your budget, or anywhere close to it, but you will be able to find a very good example with no major issues if you look carefully and take your time.

What are you after specifically? Coupe, Targa or cabriolet? Coupes tend to be more expensive as they are more popular, with cabs close behind and Targas cheaper still, meaning the latter can be a great buy if you are happy with the looks - and you get the advantage of open top motoring of course! Where are you located? I know of a relatively low mileage Targa for sale privately which might suit your budget - pm me if you are interested.

One thing's for sure, get yourself a good G50 Carrera 3.2 and (despite what others may say) you will be the owner of the a car at the pinnacle of Ferry Porsche's original design brief - even today, they are remarkably capable cars that will bring a smile to your face every time you drive it!

Hi Jamie
Again welcome ,as my compatriot Chris says the 3.2 is the final reincarnation of the September 13th 1963 of the 901[911].
The prices are rising fast, but good cars can be bought@£20K but they will not be concours, but very enjoyable to drive.G50 gear box is a must also the spec will affect the price, also most cars between 90,000 and100,000mls will have had a top end overhaul because the valve guides wear causing a lot of smoke[look for smoke at the exhaust]
Good Luck with your search
Paul
ps
Chris has a coupe and I have a Targa sport both1987

As I understand it, the Sport package was the rear spoiler and front splitter, and Bilstein shock absorbers. Take a look at the brochure and price list here: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/fb.asp?m=757781
