Where to buy Cherished Number / Private Plate?

Any recommendations on where to buy a good Cherished Number...

I'm looking for a plate with 911 ??? or ??? 911

I saw 911 DPW (my initials) for sale on newreg.com about 18 months ago.

Nearly bought it there and then, but thought it would look rather daft on a Boxster S. Subsequently bought the 997 six months down the line and went to buy the plate to find out it had been sold just a week earlier []

I've just checked on the DVLA site and these went at the last auction.

A911 PRS £1,800

911 BH £3,700

911 CC £5,200

DDW 911Y £400

911 ET £3,100

911 GL £3,600

911 JJ £10,800

911 LAW £4,100

911 LT £3,200

911 RL £5,600

911 VXP £1,200

XXX 911X £1,700

I attended one of the auctions a few years back really interesting and I guess you can bag a good plate before 'the dealers' get hold of it and a mark up.

Sorry to jump on your thread - but I have '911 SFK' which I don't use any more - now replaced with a more relevent GT3 plate [:D]

If you're interested, it's on retention in the safe so could be transfered quite quickly. Drop me a mail to 'pmjt@mac.com' if it's any good to you.

911 JOY is still out there on one or two of the more major players, eg. national numbers; reg transfers, etc.

911 JOE may still be too.

Whilst we're on the subject, does anyone have a mate called Ian with a BM? I've got M3 1ANS still & it's a tad redundant now.

You can phone DVLA and see if the number you want is available and if it is they will then add it to a forthcoming auction where you can fight it out with everyone else About six years ago I asked about A 94 FOR, two auctions later I got a letter to say it would be in the next one unfortunately I was outbid - good luck

If your going to the DVLA auction, remember that the costs as shown above are all plus the extras.. work on an extra 25% of those costs shown.[:'(]
Still better value than buying from a dealer- unless he has the number your after....

I've been to one of those DVLA auctions and got outbid on RON111E which I was quite keen on getting.

Good fun and much cheaper than going via a dealer.

My lasting impression was what a license to print money for the DVLA. Great piece of business for them.

I have a mate called Ian with an M3...

Got a feeling he already has a plate on order though, but will let him know... What do you want for it?

Sorry i'm been so long in getting back to you; just been so busy at work to get online.

I've got it advertised with a few players for £6k, but i've noticed that once they've put their commission on, it's coming out as advertised at +/- £7,000!!

I'd take £5k : it's just sitting on retention.

Ian (Blondelawman),

Sorry mate... The wife is about to give birth and has been quite unwell for a few days so my "Internet time" has been very limited for a few days.

I'm hoping to have a few beers with my mate this evening and will mention it to him then.

Cheers

Dave

Hi Ian,

No movement on the Baby front, but the wife is much better now thanks (serious blood pressure issues, but thank fully returned to normal again)

Spoke to mate about your plate, but unfortunately it's a bit sttep for him

Cheers

Dave

I suspect that's a bit ambitious. Personally am not a fan of private plates, but i bought a new M3 convertible (sold it after 5mths because it was so dull), and on impluse bought M3 NBB. Granted it's NBB not as popular as IANS , but i paid 250 quid for it. There are an awful lot of M3 plates around.

Hi Dave,

Glad to hear things better at your end.

Since I last posted, i'm managed to secure the plate i've been after for the last 15 yrs, IAN & the 1st initial of my surname.

If he's still interested, he can have it now for what i bought it for at the DVLA auction last year, inclusive of agent's fees...£3,400.

I'm not that interested in making a profit now, so delighted with the new one.

Best wishes for your forthcoming birth.

Kind regards,

Ian
