hey people.

i posted a while back after my wife agreed that she'd buy me a boxter... well.. touch wood it's gonna happen soon. just looking for feedback as best place to buy...

i like some of the private deal prices (btw i'm looking for 2.5 or 2.7 tip on a modest budget of £22k max) but am hesitant even if it does have full opc sh.

i am gonna go to paragon this weekend... any comments on them?

also has any one had any dealings with Cridfords of Surrey??

help me fulfil a long time ambition!!

here's to a long hot summer with the roof down the music playing and a tube of smarties to keep us going....

Also have a look at Autobahn, Camtune andPortiacraft to name a few more. I've never dealt with them but they all seem well stocked. You are buying at the right time - give it a month and a half and the prices will be on the up!

Buying a private Boxster shouldn't be a problem. Observe all the usual used car rules. Remember that the OPC can give the car a full pre sales check and if the seller has something to hide, you'll flush it out here.

Check that the car has a C16 UK spec sticker under the bonnet or in the handbook, and make sure you know your specs - don't let the seller fob you off claiming it has extras it doesn't have. Also, particularly with a Boxster, check that it's got good tyres with plenty of life as you'll be looking at North of £700 for a new set.

I seem to recall a thread a few weeks ago sugesting that Autobahn perhaps did not provide a service of the required quality. Or was it the cars?

Can't seem to find the thread. I could be wrong.

Paragon are VERY EXPENSIVE

Camtune are more reasonable & have a good rep.

Cridfords are fine. I have bought from them. They usually have decent cars, competively priced, but will be pretty mean with you on PX, particularly for non Porsche.

But don't forget the S in Boxster.

I know alot of people say this - but this is the best looked after posrche around, its used as my 3 rd car, it onlly ever ben dry summer used, 1 previous owner, because it does so little mileage, i have had the yearly porsche servicing done.
It is now coming to 23500 miles. I have all the lights upgraded. It is always garaged and i clean it personally every sunday morning.
It is as new inside out, not a scratch on body, alloys or interior ( the leather is not even cracked yet!) and its still as 'tight' as when it left the factory.
And it has never had an RMS leak - full inspection welcome!! Ramp aswell , its bone dry! Its my pride!!! good home wanted!

Don't go near Autobahn.

They sold me a 993 Turbo that required new pistons, barrells and refurbished turbos. They knew there was a problem with the car because they had to buy it back from the previous owner. The repairs were in excess of £10k, they did pay most of it but I am having to take them to court for £2k.

Their warranty is not worth the paper it is printed on.

hi Zkhokhar
I purchased my Boxster from Paragon last year. Out of all the garages I've purchased cars from, they were by far the best. I first dropped by on a Sunday just to see what their attitude was like, and was amazed. They were non patronising, and did not mind me asking stupid questions. I previously owned an MX5 and it was the best car i've ever owned, until now! I know you can buy cheaper than Paragon but for someone like me, who is not practical on car maintenance, the extra is worth it. Touchwood i've had no problems with the car. The only problem I've had so far is with the French police, yesterday driving back from Aaras, where I incurred a nice speeding fine! Bit embarassing really as I wasn't doing much over the speed limit. I had slowed down, good job they had not stopped me 10 minutes earlier!

I have bought two cars from Paragon a Boxster and a 996, What you get at Paragon is a friendly face and staff whom treat you with respect and the cars are there for you to look at with no pressure what so ever it makes for a pleasant experience. Also if there are any niggles afterwards they will work with you to resolve them and that in itself is rare.

They maybe a little dearer than the other independants but their stock and pre and post sales service makes up for this.

Agreed........ Paragon are expensive, but do have extensive stock, and large turnaround.

I have used and can recommend:
Northway http://www.northway.co.uk/ and
Finlay Gorham (formerly Mike Ticehurst) http://www.finlaygorham.com/

Northway have also looked after my various car's over the last 10 years

I have purchased from PARAGON, Cridfords, AUTOBAHN and Shirleys Garage

PARAGON was 2.5 boxster, they sold it to me with balding front tyres which and poor paint job on the nearside........... over priced not good service

CRIDFORDS - 993 C2, loads of faults made them but the car back from me

Shirleys Garage - 964 C4, 993 Targa and a 996 C4, Carl Ives is a great guy and Martin an ex porsche technician looks after the cars.

AUTOBAHN - BOXSTER 'S', did all of the issues at there cost which were minor, good service so far.

Yes I did look around the car......

The front tyres were worn on the inner edges badly, which I did not notice as the tread was was good on most of the tyre, I missed it; but they should have picked it up on the PDI checklist, as the tyres were ticked as being ok.

The paint job was noticeable in the daylight in certain conditions, the metallic black was grey looking when the sun was hitting the right spot of the bodywork, it transpires that ther paint shop had used an incorrect base coat.

When you are payinga premium from PARAGON which I did, I expected better service before delivery of the car !!

Mark

That is a very fair point I would agree. I have in the past not at Paragon but at another manufacturers dealership demanded the signed PDI documents due to the niggles that were on the car it was clear the PDI had just been ticked!!

It's always buyer beware where ever you go and dealers have good days and bad days like the rest of us...
