where to buy water pump and cam and balance belt kit

Hi There,

I'm not sure about where/who to get a waterpump from - depending on your timescales and the 'type' you've already got fitted to your car, you could consider a re-conditioned pump - there was a thread on here a few months ago about this. IMSR it was waylander that was arranging this.

Regarding cam/balance belt kits, you could make up your own 'kit' of pulleys and belts from GSF/Eurocarparts etc. However, having recently done both these jobs myself I found it quicker, easier and of no cost saving to go directly to Frazerpart for the complete kit - I'm not sure who it was I spoke to on the phone but the chap was very helpful and I got quick delivery.

If you're doing the job yourself you'll need a few tools, there's a new company supplying them at very reasonable cost:
http://plus4e.com/2016/01/21/plus4e-venture-into-porsche-tooling/ they can also supply the pin spanner for holding the balance shaft pulleys and the drift you'll need to replace the front crankshaft oil seal if you need to replace that too. I understand from speaking to the main man there they're looking into other tools such as a puller for the clutch fork shaft, flywheel lock etc.

I've now done the job a couple of times - I'm no expert on it but always happy to help and provide advice - chrisgrahame@yahoo.co.uk or 07540 193874

Chris

Euro Car Parts sell genuine parts pumps just without the Porsche sticker on the box if you ask them nicely. Just make sure they order the right one in for you though as they went through a couple before they got the right one in for my turbo... It was around £180 from memory. Belts and pulleys can also be bought from them, but just be choosy over what brand of parts they're actually supplying you.

As ever it's worth checking prices with your local OPC, but spares from them seem to be getting pricey these days!

Mr Auto seems to be a place to look, the belts are Gates, I forget the rollers but IIRC (for a 968) the full kit was about £240 compared to over £400 from OPC.

Speak to Paul, the pumps have to have metal impellors that are not corroded away.

I have one on my 968
If you want to go this route then I have an old S2 pump which I have squirrelled away for such an eventuality. If you wanted an exchange item to send them then I'd be happy to help.

not sure

some have a 68mm impellor
others have a 78mm impellor

think the early cars upto 85.5 have the small one, but don't just assume im right measure it.

its all on engine code
M44.05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10 951 106 021 10

lots of part number changes and super sessions

Wouldn't touch euro car parts for a water pump. will never buy parts from them again. Went through two sets of pagid brake discs. Both sets warped. Total rubbish. Best water pump you can get at a good price is rosepassion.

The waterpumps for the 2.5L and 2.7L engines are different to the 3.0L 16V S2 & 968 engines - they even have 2.5L stamped on them....

I bow to Chris's greater knowledge, although I thought that the 2.7 took the same pump as the 3.0?

Does the S take the same pump as the other 2.5 engines?

yeah seen the rosepassion price.... its not bad anybody used them ...

I used them for the water pump, timing kit etc. Very good at answering questions and all parts were excellent quality arriving in a couple of days.

2.7 & 3.0 blocks use the water pump with the larger impellor. 2.5 blocks use the smaller one. I have a brand new Laso pump (2.7 & 3.0 block size) for sale that I did not end up using but it is the larger type which is not the one you need unless you want to modify the casting on your block so the larger impellor does not rub.

I believe it's a minor grinding job to clearance the larger impeller. I also thought the 2.7 and 3.0 pumps were the same part due to the block similarities.
