Where to get cheap tyres?

Hi everyone, I'm just posting this as I've been quoted today from micheldever prices of £200/180 for michelin/pirelli rosso fronts and £230/250 for the rears. These prices are for the standard 19" wheel size for the 997 carrera S and seem way dear to me as i recall michael997 getting 4 new pirellis back in september for £680 and some of you getting them even cheaper. I was suprised micheldever were as expesive as that as ther'ye usually quite good. Please if anyone knows of any good deals going at the moment please let me know.
Thanks Russell.

If you plan to go for Michelins and you have a Costco nearby then do get a price quote from them... You can get a quote over the phone.

Try Black Circles www.blackcircles.com

To be honest I'd be surprised if Micheldever were uncompetitive. However, Blackcircles seem to be very good at the moment (I've recently bought tyres from them for another car) and their tyres can be fitted locally all included in the price. However, I just put in the tyre size for the Carrera S and their website does not offer many options, but I'd suggest you email them or call them. Their customer service is excellent.

I've no connection apart from being a customer, but they do a promotion where as a customer I can give you a promotional code to get a discount. Contact me by private message if you want to follow this up.

Bracknell Tryes - same group as Micheldever, but they give better service and i know of poor handling of wheels at Micheldever themselves, whereas Bracknell know their stuff

Other than that try Elite in Essex

Can't understand the moan about Micheldever, I allways use them for my car and bike, and can never find cheaper OR better fitting. Last week I had two new rears, Bridgestones, for my 996 turbo S, price was £395 fitted.
Join their Premier service, it costs nothing, you don't queue and get one guy doing the whole job. As an aside, when he refitted the centre crests I pointed out that they were the wrong way round. He said no other Porsche owner had told him this. I told him that the correct way is with the point of the crest pointing to the tyre valve. There was much surprise all round !!!

COLIN.

The centre crests facing the valve is the Porsche way; take it even further:
Buy that U-key and every time you park the car turn the crests so they are perfectly standing facing the road surface. [;)]

I'm with Colin.
I got 4 new tyres (Bridgestone S02A N3) from Micheldever for £620'ish all in, if memory serves, about 4 weeks ago. Seems a pretty good price to me.
I used the Premier service, which cost nowt and all four were done in 20 mins. Plus they cleaned the wheels and it is only a couple of miles from me.

I don't have the coloured crests, so did not check where the turbo script is pointing.

The 19 inch tyres may be more though, since it is a less common size at the moment.

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not moaning about micheldever as I've bought probably 8 sets of tyres for varying cars from them and they were always very cheap it just seems this time they aren't quite there on price as I recall a few board members getting them cheaper elsewhere. For my old 996 on 18"s i got a set of 4 pirellis for little over £600 once from them so I know ther're cheap most the time so i am sounding out other possible avenues at the moment.

Try Elite Garages - advert in Porsche Post - great deal for members (and they do a lot for the club - so it's nice to support them back...)

Micheldever - Didn't jack the car on the jacking points (until asked try again), dropped wheels on floor, didn't fit locking nut to the correct stud (coloured to signify on hub), didn't used torque wrench to tighten nuts (until told they'd get their nuts tightened if they didn't)

Maybe it was the junior on a bad day, but they won't get another chance.

Micheldever will ship, I simply get a price from them & then either get a local guy to match it, if they can't then I get them shipped to a local fitter, who charges for fitting only.

Wraysbury Tyres -Chertsey. Steve or Kevin 01932 570420

Mention my name.

Well I for one will second that. I rang them today and found them extremely helpful and competitive.

As an aside I have been unable to replace my Yokohama AVS Sports on the rear (no longer in stock or production), and am replacing all 4 tyres with Bridgestone SO2's. So if anyone with Yokos wants to make an offer for a couple of fronts (225/40/18) with plenty of life in them, let me know before they come off on Tuesday week

Hi there, after following up on all your suggestions it seems micheldever are still the cheapest after all for the 19" tires, think i;m gonna go with the conti sports as i've never tried these before after loads of michelins and pirellis. Anyway thanks for helping me out.
