WHERE'S MY CAR GONE?

Don't panic.. it hasn't been stolen... it's just been grabbed by my son... I knew that the kids had chipped In to replace the hatch seal, I thought that late last night when he collected it (he works stupid hours) that he was taking it to fit it for me?

It was my 60th yesterday so it was a present from my kids...things seem to have escalated a little. The first hint was when he text me this morning to sort out all the parts that I have sitting at home but not been able to fit myself. The rear brakes for example but then he said everything.. the leather dash covers and the seats which I took out because of the leaks.... and now this afternoon he wants all of the Vitesse paperwork, says he's not happy with how the cars running.. well I did say it was a little rough on idle.. he says the entire rev range is running lean. So I have no idea when the car will return or what my son is doing, the dash removal for example. As I'm grounded for the foreseeable future due to the current situation I won't miss the car, other than admiring it sitting on the drive... I do that far too often.. is that healthy or not?... I learnt years ago.. best leave him to it.. clearly it's going to involve a major strip down and I best not expect to see it back anytime soon......wish me, luck guys....

I certainly do, ..i have no idea what they are doing. Best just let the 5 of them get on with it....I'd be a nervous wreck if not for the current situation, there's far bigger things to wory about than a car

Wish I could get on with fitting the cruise control, but as my car is in a garage in a public space and I have a prisoner No 9 letter, I can’t get near it, so I have been in the shed making the wiring looms ready as my car does not have any already fitted

had all the parts about 3 years, never had the time, the weather and no work all come at the same time

Hi guys

well, I thought that I would update you as to what has been going on with my kids and my car... seems they have been busy and spending too much money... Car isn't finished yet as Porsche closed its doors just before sending out some parts, I believe the hatch and fuel grommet seal along with new seals and clips for the heater matrix, so the dash hasn't been removed yet. However, my eldest has been very busy on the mechanicals.
I'll list the jobs: (I bet that I have forgotten some)

All new belts
new fuel lines over the exhaust manifold
new 82.5 lb injectors
New 044 competition fuel pump
re-positioned the MAF and air filter
Stripped/polished the inlet manifold and main boost pipes which were then made ultra-smooth and sprayed in chrome paint
replaced the rear brake disks
rebuilt the callipers
fixed my driver's door handle
stripped and repainted the area below the windshield under the dust cover. Evidently, this had gained some surface rust due to the tree it's been parked under. In fact, son number two turned up tonight to cut it down... I persuaded him to leave it for now as there are two types of birds nesting in it...
To match the new injectors the Vitesse ECU board jumper switches have been changed to the first setting for the larger injectors....er.. you know I said it was fast... haha.. that was nothing to what it is now and I still have two settings to retard the ignition further. This thing is now crazy fast and drives like new.
He also did a little work on the map to remove a flat spot just when pulling off.
He stripped and rebuilt the power steering pump, I don't recall the steering ever being this light or precise before?

I was forced to go and get some fuel, honestly, my arm was bent, well he said to check it out and buy some fuel as the half-tank that was in the car when he collected it was now near empty? Evidently he had to test it and this involved some 7krpm gear changes and redline driving.. hell I don't drive it that fast...

The car always has been special, certainly special to me, now it's gone a step further... 5 years it's been back on the road with its newly rebuilt engine and I was still using 55 lb injectors... no longer, the 85lb injectors have transformed the car once again.
He still has a lot to do, for which he said as soon as Porsche reopen and send him the parts he's missing he'll strip out the dash, fix the heating and cover the dash and center console with the leather kit I bought all those years ago.
Oh, he also said that at full bore he can hear the exhaust tailpipe causing a restriction to the flow... I guess that will be changed in due course too.

To be honest Paul, I don't feel the need...the only time the brakes felt wanting was when after inspection, some of the pistons had seized...I has fitted drilled disks before this thinking they needed upgrading ...standard disks fitred now, fronts a year old and rears fitted last week. .My son has now stripped the calipers including removing the plates that lift..This hadn't been done before as I was worried about a possible disaster...when my son told me he had removed these I told him he was brave...his reply was...' I had the car dad and you weren't arojnd to tell me not to do it' fair enough...I'll just let him do what he wants from now on...
To summerise, the brakes are good enough..

i agree,

years back i tried drilled discs and speacial race type pads that went together , thinking it would make a good improvement. It did the opersite and the discs ( bloody! expensive i will add) became ribed quickly. i then had my calipers overhauled and lift plates replaced and fitted genuine pagid disc and pads from good old Frazerpart and wow the difference was 40% better than its ever been. and i was overwhelmed how good they are once freshened up properly with the added goodrich lines and fresh fluid ect ??

i would say for spirited driving on our roads yes , if your on the track and need to stop very quickly from a fast straight ect obviously not

if someone is doing silly speads and wants to stop very quickly then also obviously there gonna need upgraded brakes whether there cars are 400bhp or 200 bhp that’s my opinion on it anyway.

Porsche decided to fit bigger brakes with an extra 30 bhp, and a bit more weight. Make of that what you will...

I’ve got the "medium blacks" (although they’re now red) on my Turbo S - fitted with standard discs, Mintex M1144 pads and 968 brake cooling scoops and ducts.


They’re more than sufficient on road and track.

They’re more than sufficient on road and track.

Same except Textar pads. The car had new or refurbed rear calipers before I bought it, they still look like new. Front medium blacks could do with a freshen up, been considering a bigger caliper/disc conversion using later Porsche parts.
