Where's my fuel?!

So I've collected car after having battery replaced. Fuel gauge light just come on so put £30 in... Restarted car but gauge light still on and trip says --- either all my fuel has leeked out or I have yet another issue? Anyone had the same?

This question comes up on a regular basis. The gauge on the 4wd models only operates on the top half of the tank as the tank is saddle shaped. After that it is calculated by the DME. £30 is probably just shy of reaching the gauge.

It'll probably have righted itself by the time that you've read this! It happens to mine (996 C2 MY 2003) if I let the fuel level fall too low - then it just corrects itself after a while.

Yes, I have exactly the same problem. Unless I fill the car right up, the fuel guage doesn't seem to register a change. I haven't done anything about it - I just got used to it and keep it filled up.

Leave it for 24 hours and it will be fine. I had this "feature" with my Boxster as well as the 996.

Don't be such a tight ***,

only joking Paul, yet another quirk you've discovered with your C4S, you'll grow to love it though believe me

Times are hard Ashley, haha that made me laugh! It's the first time ever I've never filled it to the brim, honest!

I have a 996 C4S (picked it up a few months ago) and discovered the same issue. I can get the fuel sensor looked at according to my local specialist, so i may do the in the future but so far I just need to make sure i stick 40 quids worth at least on an empty tank or the fuel does not register.

All you guys with 4wd models. THIS IS NOT A FAULT. Read your manual or my previous post. Or take your car to the garage and waste your money.

Or my link.

It also applies to the GT3, which for some strange reason uses the same tank.

I think we could answer 99% of questions with just one FAQ, that says "RTFM" ! [:D]

I remember reading somewhere that it's only the RHD GT3. The LHD version has a long range fuel tank. Sounds like it depends upon where one puts one's column (as the actress said to the bishop).

I've been saving up and filled it to the brim on the weekend and hey presto my fuel gauge has come back to life!!
