anyone help as to which model 996 i should look for around the £30000 figure. best year/worst year etc.. problems..

Stretch the budget slightly and get a 2002MY, 3.6 'facelift' C2 Coupe (6-spd), with a few nice options, ideally including PSE.

what price do you think these will bottom out at

Virtually all cars depreciate, it's the real cost of ownership these days. The 'facelift' models incorporated a lot of improvements and upgrades, so they should hold their values over the 3.4.

Incidentally, despite what a lot of people say, mileage has a big influence on prices.

I'd certainly have a look at the face-lift model, it was much improved over the 3.4. Your £30k will get you in to one with a few miles on. But you'll still be able to get a Porsche Extended Warrenty up to 125,000 miles or 9 years old if your worried by that sort of thing.

A quick look at an Auto Trader search brings up one just under and plenty just over.

I'd definatly opt for a 'face-lift' 3.6 model. Like others have said a high mileage (over 7,000 miles per year) will get you more for your money.

These cars are very well put together, so as long as you have FULL PORSCHE service history, I wouldn't worry about buying one with higher mileage.

The only option I wish I had got (and mine is a low spec'd car really) is the Bose sound system, but they tend to only be on the higher spec cars like the C4S.

Good luck hunting... I have to say I've not driven anything quite as aw-inspiring ! Such a good car, suitable for the daily commute, trip out in the country or a blast round a track. [:)]
