Which battery NOT TO GET, NO NO NO!

After viewing a few threads about replacing batteries i feel as though i must warn anyone off a 'Halfords Calcium' battery. They leak out acid as they're being charged which means as soon as you turn on your engine they set about corroding your car away. I fitted one to my Mk1 Golf GTI and it was just awful once i'd caught on to what was going on, Bosch Silver all the way.

Edited to remove a slightly ruder but no less suitable version of the word 'leak', sorry admins.

Thanks for the heads up. I've used one and not had any problems with leaks so far but I'll keep an eye on it. I've only ever used a weak trickle charger with it and also like to keep one of those absorbing mats in place under it even if only to stop paint being scratched away when moving it into place.

I've not had too many problems with Halforda batteries, they last longer than most- you do know the calcium batteries have a four year guarantee! Find that receipt!

Always take your Halford batteries back to be tested one month before the guarantee ends, don't tell them about the guarantee until they inform you that you need to buy a new one[;)]

Works every time...........but don't tell anybody.

Theres a worthwhile saving to be made with a trade card too.

do you just have to fill a form in to be a get a trade card or do you have to be vat registered

You have to 'meet the criteria'; so it depends on who you speak to and how you propose yourself. I used my trade insurance policy as proof of my trade status, which shows that it can be relatively easy to obtain.
