Which Boxster for £18k??

Just visiting from the 964RS forum![;)]

My partner has been thinking of changing her new Mini Cooper S but hasn't been turned on by the few alternatives in the market at the moment...

...until this weekend that is - when I said how about a Boxster? Her face lit up and she said, "That's it! I'd never even considered that before."

So it looks like we're in the market for a Boxster. But which model / year / whatever?
Her budget will be about £18k.

Any thoughts or suggestions very welcome.
Many thanks,
Rich

You can have your pick of virtually all 2.5's,an early 2.7 facelift and even an older 3.2S and don't be scared to make an offer on prices they are unfortunately depreciating and this is the optimum time of the year to be purchasing.

Just decide between the looks and the increased power

Our Boxsters dont leak you know Gordon [:D] also i havent noticed a drop around this time of year..........
They cant get much lower in price

one of the last pre facelift S models from 2002 (255bhp) , or a facelift 2.7(228bhp) - the facelift will have the heated glass rear screen, revised bumpers and a glovebox (for the makeup bag [;)] ).

Personally i'd go for the facelift 2.7 - the convenience of the glass screen , lower insurance and running costs and slightly newer car outweigh the performance differential IMO

Apologies Elliot, if I had known you were about I wouldnt have mentioned depreciation.

"This time of the year" is a generic reference that this is the best time of the year to be looking for Porsche as rather few people tend to sell rather than place them in storage. Anyway thats my explanation for finding cheap cars..........

I'd agree with this logic though I think you'd struggle to get a nice f/lift 2.7 for £18k. You'd need at least another £1k to get away from the high milage/patchy history/odd spec cars that would be lurking here but I'm prepared to be corrected.

You could consider buying a really nice 2.5 for around £15k with a low mileage and spending the rest on some decent wheels and clear lenses. I got one with full leather, climate, hard top etc for a nudge under 15k from a garage, not private. It's a piece of work I can tell you.

I personally prefer the bumpers on the pre facelift cars. They made the side air intakes and front spoiler a little too fussy for my liking.

Each to their own though. Go for it. You'll love whatever you buy I'm sure. [:D]

Can't keep off this forum [:D] so... Rich there's a 00 car in the for sale at the moment - not £18k but not far off and if it comes with the hardtop.... and no I don't know the seller.

We sold ours 3rd week August,3.2s Tip, Lapis with savannah (not everyones cup of tea), 01Y just over 40k with upgraded lights and genuine18" Carrera's, heated crested seats, sound system, 6cd, wilhemy hood relay, aeroquip hoses and new brakes for £19600. Gives you idea of where they are ish.

Notice on the sale section when a Boxster comes up - no replies - as with ours.
If you can hang on 'till Nov/Dec/Jan much cheaper.
Cheers
DPH

I'd be surprised if you'd get a decent 2.7 facelift for £18k.
If you up your spend to £20k, you can look to those advertised for £21.5 (ish) and haggle down to £20k.
For that, you'll get a decent 2.7 facelift or a decent 3.2S late model pre facelift depending on how fussy you are... crucial for me was 3.2S, PSM, Litronic and clear lights and i'm picking up a 2002 pre facelift 3.2S (inc hardtop) for around £21k this week
