WHICH DASH CAM?

Hi All,

I would like to buy a Dash Cam but also want to use it for recording track days.
There are so many out there, what have other got and how would you rate them?

Thanks

I've got a Go Pro 3 Black Edition which I use in the car & on a bike which is great. Not the cheapest but does everything you want very well.

Thanks for the quick response.
I have seen the videos on Youtube where they have a map of the track and your speed, etc..
Not sure if these are track specific?

This is the advanced course. You either buy a quite expensive system which come with integrated pictures and data capture and integration or you buy something like Harry's Lap Timer to run on your phone and stick them together. Also note that timing on track days is not allowed for circuits', organiser's and your insurance reasons, so another aspect to consider.

GoPro is highly rated, but expensive in comparison to others.
I have used Transcend for quite a while now. It's cheap (but not the cheapest) simple to operate, good low-light operation - even at night, has a rear playback screen, gives clear pictures and has Bluetooth for operating it from a phone app. [:)]

Clive.

One other aspect I should have mentioned is circuits' requirement for increasingly secure methods of mounting the camera. Three years ago a robust windscreen suction mount was OK, the requirement then moved to cable tie tethering to the rear view mirror, and now some if not most circuits are looking for a firmer mounting on a roll cage or similar structure.

I am able to mount a GoPro in the Cayman behind the seats on the cross bar using a cycle bars type fitting, even with that Goodwood asked me to use cable ties, but after discussion they agreed that was a bit OTT.

It seems to be a bit of a lottery at the moment and you should consider mounts and how you will locate the camera in the car.

I Have a next base 512g ,suction mounted on screen front view full hd with screen , has a G sensor and a motion sensor for park mode .Dose the job and am happy with it.

Thanks all,
I think I am going to go with the TRANSEND DrivePro 220 £123.00
Does what it says on the tin!

Thinking of getting a Nextbase 402G or BlackVue DR650/750.

Spoke to carcamerashop.co.uk yesterday regarding the above and was told that both are great however he couldn't recommend one over the other and it was down to personal choice.

Any advice or recommendations guy?

Thanks

I have two Nextbase 402G and the batteries fail after a year. Finding a replacement battery seems impossible so I will have to modify the case to take a larger capacity battery which they should have been fitted with in the first place.

The problem with the internal battery failing is that the unit does not power off properly and corrupts files.

:-(

I've been using the Transend 220 for about a week now and the picture quality is superb.
I do like how it records my speed too.
It's small enough not to obscure your view (I have it just under the rear view mirror) and the cable is long enough to hide around the edge without being in the way.
As soon as you start the car, it starts recording so you don't have to think about turning it on.
I've recorded a lot of me in traffic and useless drivers going 15mph under the speed limit (even in a 30mph) in front of me, but nothing exciting yet.
