Which dealership to purchase from?

Surely if you want a car sooner rather than later then Bolton is best placed to deliver one for you by some distance. If you are no3 in the queue then they should have a pretty good idea on their allocations and timescales. Let them know you're happy to taker an earlier slot if the ones in front of you cancel and then go see them and introduce yourself. Part of the fun is spending time at the dealership specifying your car exactly how you want it and starting a relationship with the team there.

Thanks - I couldn't agree more. Part of the experience is definitely visiting and building that rapport. I'm four hours away from Bolton, though! I don't mind when I get the car as long as I actually get one before production ceases. I still really like my current car (2016 Audi RS7) and could use the time to put aside more deposit or even to figure out a way to keep both cars.

I suppose what I'm really asking is which dealership to trust with my business - not only for this Cayman but going forward too - and which dealership is more likely to receive more allocations as I've heard that Porsche GB may choose to give more allocations to certain dealers?

Hello all,

Soon to be new to Porsche - I’m looking to factory order a Cayman GTS 4.0.

I’ve done some research, know how the waitlist and build process work and I have 2-3 choices of dealerships which I’m considering:

Bolton (#3 in the queue - they think May delivery)
Silverstone (#4 in the queue - quoted 12-18 months but hopefully closer to 12)
East London (#7 in the queue. Most local - quoted 12-18 months but being advised that I might not even get one before production is ceased)

So far I think I have had the best customer service from Silverstone.

I am wondering what your thoughts are about which to order from and which you think may get an allocation first. Of the three, I've only visited East London.

Thanks for your time replying.

I would just go for the dealer who can supply a car asap given the present market conditions.

Given that sales staff are transient you are unlikely to have any continuity. Based on my experience buying new and secondhand with two different dealerships the sales experience was not great .The demand for the cars makes the dealers lazy and unresponsive. If you are a high roller who churns cars for the latest thing then it is probably a different experience. I would say it is more worthwhile to establish some sort of relationship with a service department once you get the car.( if you can find a half decent one) although since Covid in my experience service has been poor with long waits to get work done and lack of availability of any sort of loan cars.

Most of the speccing of the cars can be done on the configurator but it is useful to visit the dealerships to see colours and features on other cars , although I imagine the shortage of dealer cars makes this difficult at present. I am sure that it will be worth the wait for the GTS 4.0.

Give Richard Mander a call at Porsche Preston and tell him I passed on his details.

Richard will be honest and up front with you as to whether you'll get a build slot or not.

My buying experience at Silverstone was ok but the standard of servicing has been quite poor over the period of ownership so far. No continuity of people to form a relationship with and not entirely happy with how my car has been managed whilst in their care. Probably should not have stuck with them so long and now looking to go elsewhere.
