Which Engine oil?

I've got Valvoline VR1 Racing 20W-50 in mine. I have previously used Motul 10W-40 and Mobil oils. Castrol do XL Classic 20W-50 and Magnatec 10W-40 which I also hear get used by early owners. That's just a small sample so as you can see there is no one right answer.

I would take the advice of whichever specialist you are using to look after the car.

I don't think there is a need to consider a modern engine oil grade. The engines were designed for the oils available in period, so 20W/50 fits the bill perfectly. If you have an uprated engine it may be wise to consult the builder. If its a standard 2.0 Litre, modern oils aren't worth bothering with, certainly from a cost consideration. Personally, I use a Halfords 'Classic' 20W/50 in my 2.4 and it works perfectly well.

Thanks for advice.

Just topped up with 1.5l of Halfords Classic 20/50W which I use in my 1968 Austin Cambridge.

Still to decide what to use for oil change.
