which fuel?

Hi all,

Picked up my 997 C4S yesterday and just want to know which fuel to use Unleaded or super-unleaded, and is there a difference?
I thought I read somewhere that the engine management system adjusts according to the fuel used.
Thanks

Congratulations on your new car.
If you can, use 97 octane regularly and you'll get the maximum out of the engine and a little extra mpg (allegedly). There have been numerous threads over the years, and the consensus is that if you have a convenient Shell station to use Nitro and collect your points. Otherwise any 97 but there have been instances of alleged engine problems with Supermarket fuels.

You are correct that the engine is fine with 95 octane but the engine management software adjusts to compensate for the lower rating to prevent pinking, hence the lower performance available. Either way it takes a couple of tankfuls to adjust fully.

Like has been said already, the 997 is designed to run on 97 octane and you'll get the best from it if you do. I usually use Momentum99 and get really good economy and performance as a result. And points, of course 😃

You can use either and the engine should adjust to make best use of the fuel you give it to drink. The Super unleaded - allegedly - gives more power. I try to feed mine with Shell V Power Nitro + but that is fairly easy to do around here because there are lots of Shell fuel stations.

Thanks guys,

I always use shell and will fill up with the super.

As the owner of a first class honours in pedantry I wish to point out that it says 98, not 97, octane on the filler flap.......[:D]
