Which is really faster 924s or 944 2.5?

I have recently heard many people say that a 924s is quicker than a 944. Says who? I thought that the 2.5 944 had more power than the 924. I know that the 924s is more aerodynamic. But does that count for that much?

I have a 2.7 8v which has 33lb more torque than a 2.5 944-does that count for anything? The stats do not differenciate between 2.5 and 2.7. Nor are they ever mentionned in classic car magazines as seperate from the standard 944.

Anyone any comments?

Not all 924S engines were less powerful. As well as being more aerodynamic (which will make a big difference at speed I imagine) they have narrower tyres and are lighter. My guess is they might well be quicker right through the range with the biggest difference being at speed.

I have no idea if a 2.7 should be faster or not. My guess would be that it is, but the differences we're talking about here are all very small.

Max speed in a straight line (dependant on gearing) maybe, round corners I would imagine the wider track benefits the 44,

Bruntingthorpe anyone [:D]

The 2.7's are so rare that I don't think I've seen any magazine reviews for one. I'll check my box of 944 anorak material in the morning. I doubt there would be very much in it, but I am 'nearly' positive the 924 has a higher top speed purely due to aerodynamics.

BTW the very last 924S cars did have exactly the same 944 engine with full power

Well, from where I am the answers obvious ..... [:D] , or maybe it's just me !

cheers ....... Phil

I'll challenge you to a rematch when I've sorted out my prostate problems [:D][:D][:D]

I've been reading a few old 1988 magazine articles today, and most of the independant tests have the 160bhp 924S a smidgen quicker than the 944 in all the benchmark measurements. It stands to reason the the lighter weight and Kylie Minogue hips have to out perform the J'Lo esque 944 [8D]

Me again

Lets face it there both great cars and who really cares which is faster, as long as there both better than a ford focus

Blimey, Kylie vs J'Lo - is that what it's come down to. Still, could have been Kylie vs Jason (I'm showing my age, but as I reckon we're all about the same I guess I'll get away with it.)

Sorry chaps, gone a bit off topic haven't we? Perhaps we don't actually care which is 2-3mph faster ......
