Which Oil level should I go by please

989 Tiptronic 2003

My Dipstick shows as on the mark
Oil level meter shows it is over filled
Feel it is safer to go by the meter as It also looks over filled

Thanks

I would have thought the reverse Richard. The dipstick is a direct method of measurement whereas the oil level gauge relies upon a correctly calibrated electrical system.

I didn't realise that the 986 had both - duplication is useful but sometimes causes conflicts, as is the case here. My 987.2 CS only has a gauge, probably as part of a cost-cutting exercise.

Must be measured either way when the car is on level ground The gauge can read one bar above level even with the correct amount of oil added at an oil change.

Ian

Thanks you IAN the only problem is that there is only one bar above the max level
Just feel guage is a really good way of checking the oil and , maybe, sudden increases which not be good

Dipstick, without a doubt. The gauge is OK but if you read it in line with the handbook instruction or the countdown, you'll become paranoid!
