Which outdoors (all weather) cover

Hi there,

My previous '44 is parked in the driveway and subject to all the punishment that UK weather can throw at it. Its doing ok but every summer I spend a weekend de-rusting and every year the rubbers look a bit worse and the paint a bit duller. Plus the car stays clean for a maximum of two days after washing.

I've been indecisive about car covers forever. I even bought two and stopped using them shortly afterwards.

Reading around though people seem to lean towards covering the car - as long as the cover is a really good one.

So:
a) anythoughts and experiences on whether to cover up or not?
b) what covers would people suggest. Coverking (coverking.com) seem to be the preferred ones in the US..

Cheers,
Alex

I have the expensive gortex tailored to fit type, now for sale ..........since the fireman cut the root off it doesn't fit.

I used it for a year with no problems, did not have to wax the car but you must not cover a dirty car or it will rub the paint, no paint fade, cool in the summer and no damp in the winter.

mail me if you want it.

I got my cover from Cover Zone, the Stormforce variety. Seems to do the job very well if but can rip around the wing mirror area if not careful (pull to hard). I have used silicone tent repair to solve the issue and it does carry a 2 year g'tee anyway.

I agree that you should probably get a better quality cover over a cheap one. Covers are a bit of a love, hate thing for me. They are better than leaving the car out with nothing, especially in prolonged wet weather. However you do need to be careful, I wouldnt leave my car under the cover for any real length of time (over a couple weeks) as dust and grit can get underneath and cause havok with your paintwork. Also in winter they can get wet underneath due to condensation quite easily, which isnt a good thing as it cant escape. Personnaly I will keep my car under the cover in wet weather but will take it off if the opportunity arises and weather permits. Covering a wet or dirty car is also not recommended.

Thats why I would only use a gortex cover, no condesation.

I've been using a tailored, breatheable cover from Specialised Car Covers. Had it 3 or 4 years now and I'm very happy with it...it is a perfect fit, is robust, and seems to breathe as claimed!

They're usually at the NEC show, and have a discount offer for orders taken there.

Mine too is gortex (or similar), but I still get condensation, even gortex jackets do this, unfortunately...
