which pads?

h_____

New member
Folks, I know this has been done before but.....

I need new front disks and pads, was planning to put OE disks, and decent track pads. I seem to recall that Pagids are the ones to go through (I think they attack the disks more, but have better stopping power?). Anyway, which pagids do people use, and where can I get a set (cheap!!).

Also, I assume that I may aswel to my OPC for disks, not much to be saved unless someone can tell me otherwise.

And finally any tips or tricks when swapping front brakes, or is it relatively straight forward?

Hugh, just ask around ?

My experience with OPC's is if you know what you want to pay, they can often help.

If you don't know what you want to pay, they will sometimes offer you a 10% PCGB discount ...

I have set of pads from Jason --- I believe lightly used RS29's which I thought I might fit --- but I don't really want screeching 'cos I also drive it on the road.

Thanks Chris, thats what I thought about the disks, I'd heard of the 10% discount, so will try that.

Are you looking to move the RS29s on then? A quick look on the web suggests, they will be worth a shot! Let me know, I'll happily cover what you paid for them. :)

RS 29 or RS 19 (both yellow Pagids, 29 is the newer one) are great pads, last long, not too hard on the discs, great stopping power, realiable brake performance, need only a little heat, perfect for a track day car with some or little road use.

Be prepared to stand some squealing... the older you´ll get the less you´ll hear it.

Discs for track use = original Porsche.

Sorry, no idea where to get the stuff for little money.

Rgds,

Hacki

I picked up a recommendation from this forum (I think it was from SimonExtreme) for Pagid RS15 greys. After using them for over a year now I couldn't be more pleased with their performance. A bit of squeal on the road but tolerable on the drive to and from the track. Their cold bite is brilliant........ which is perfect for me because I go so slowly [:D].

But seriously, even with my smaller C2 brakes I have nothing but praise for their stopping power.

Thanks Hacki and Steve for the info, although I drive the car on the road, I'm not worried about performance on the road, its quite compromised as it is, so poor cold performance isn't an issue.

Looks like a set of RS29s is the way to go. I wait to hear from you Chris, before I order anything!

Also, will stick with Porsche disks then.

I have front set of Pagid greys available at Oulton, hardly used -open to offers....

I always use Pagid orange on the Cup, but then it ain't used on the road....

Stick with OE discs, but take the trouble of drilling the dust out after every track day and they will last and last.................GT-One complain I don't get thru enough....[;)]

h, as I recall from brands, you appear to be quite heavy on the brakes, on that basis an endurance pad like the pagid yellow 29/19 would make sense

Hugh, fronts only from Jason, I paid £100 if u want to try them.

Maybe I should go for harder pads, but I would do it all round --- anybody have a view on Pagid Blues ?

I think you would use them up in one day Chris. If you want good initial bite without having to be hard on the pedal, with good modulation thrown into the mix, take up Melv's offer for his spare greys [;)]

Thanks for the suggestion Steve [;)]

So what are the standard pads ? How do the grey's compare ?

I get two to three trackdays out of standard fronts, twice that out of rears, and I'm not unhappy with them.

I agree the standard pads made by Textar are very good. I use them on the road but put the Pagid greys in the day before a track day. Once bedded in the pedal is so much firmer than it is with standard pads and the stopping power significantly increased. The fronts last me 5 to 6 trackdays. If you can get Melv to do you a good deal on them, they would be well worth a try. Happy to give you a hand popping them in on the RS day [;)]

Thanks Steve [:)]

Help would be appreciated for the man who can chop the top off a door when new carpet is laid [:D] --- and then has re-hang the cardboard door !!

But, I do also have the front pads from Jason, and I'll probably be in the 993RS due to it's being the 15th anniversary year etc !

So now it's make up my mind time, because I need to organise the insurance ...

Chris - Yes I'll take them please! I'll bring cash with me to Outlon.

Melv, I've no idea what Greys are worth, but checking tech specs, they look superior to Orange, for track work? And similar cold friction. This means that that mint one wont be coming to Outlon now - I'll have to find another vehicle to make the journey in!!

Clubsport, I havent worked out how to stop the poor thing yet. Since I've owned it the brakes have been crying out for an overal. It left us overbraking the car vibration was putting us off. I hope to get a handle on it when the car is stable under braking again. New bits on the front and some SRF, and an inspection of the rear is planned for this week. Brakes wont make it through an MOT at the moment, hence not on the road for Outlon.

I can't believe how u guys are getting thru pads!!!! We need to talk about your braking technique!!

I've yet to have the pleasure of one of those.....look forward to seeing how it compares to your NGT [:)]

Happily to discuss, I've been very disappointed with the brakes, desperately hoping its the setup. I've been gentle on brakes with caterham, needing only 2 sets per season!!! Thats 14 races, at least 10 qualis, and about 10 test days!!!
