Which Petrol

Ephraim

This might seem like a bit of a silly question, but I'm closing in on owning an '87 Lux, and was wondering what petrol everyone uses.

Obviously they run on unleaded, but should I be trying to put only premium stuff (BP Ultimate and the like), or can I just use the regular stuff? does it make any difference to this age of car?

What about additives? I am generally wary of them, as I'm not convinced that they are good for a car, but am I right?

Oh, and last but not least, oil. Which oil should I be feeding the 944?

Thanks again for the help.

There has been much debate about petrol on this site before, although usually for the S2, not the Lux, although it will still apply. (If a 951 is your chariot then the accepted wisdom is that high-octane stuff is well worth saving up for.)

I maintain that my S2 runs better on super-plus stuff, and the MPG returned is better, more than compensating for the extra price (cost/mile is lower on better petrol.) It also starts better and runs more smoothly, as well as pulling better. And I don't think it's just psychosomatic.

Others (like the very knowledgable morris944s2john) think that the posh stuff is not worth the extra.

Oil - another can of worms. Do a search and amaze yourself at the answers. I'll open the bidding at 10w40 semi-synth, bought very cheaply from GM, changed every 6000 miles.

Oli.

Normal 95Ron unleaded is what the Lux was designed for and you will not notice any appreciable difference with Super Unleaded unless you have the car tuned to take advantage of it

I'm not that knowledgable![:D] [;)], there is much more that I dont know about 944's than I do know.

I agree with Oli that the more expensive petrol may give more MPG and be worth the difference. Its just that I've not tested the MPG versus cost factor.

At the end of the day, try filling from a near empty tank with normal, then then time super and see if you notice the difference.
