Which Radio/CD player

Hi there -

Does anybody know what the original radio and/or CD player was for the 993? I have a modern one in mine that looks a bit out of place and am thinking about putting an original one back in. And is ebay the best place to find one?

Alternatively, are there any modern units would people recommend and that look good in a 993? Ideally one with ipod/aux input?

Many thanks,

John

I've just been through all this myself ....

best 'original' looking units were the Becker Grandprix or Becker Indianapolis with yellow screen, but both are pricey & difficult to get hold of due to Becker pulling out of the after-market sector. Both I think also need the ipod adapter which is circa £100.

From the high street places, the best i-pod compatitble I could find which would still look OK in the dash was this Kenwood

as it turns out, I am sticking with the sony unit I have in th ecar as I think I might have found a way of connecting my ipod to it anyway

And I heard yesterday, as per the digital TV 'revolution', that as the roll out of digital radio begins - all our analogue sets will become redundant. (But not until 2015!)
Brilliant - all those £'s spent today will become worthless relics []

Check out my post on having a Becker Grand Prix and Ipod Remote fitted today:

Not the cheapest route, but definitely the best looking.

The costs involved were:

Grand Prix £300
Ipod Remote Kit £100
Fitting £150
Total £550

the way things are heading .... our petrol powered cars will be redundant by then anyway [][:D]

I laughed out loud when I heard a recent advert for a "digital car radio"....ended "check your postcode for signal availability".
Digital will never catch on until it works when I'm driving my car.

Another vote for Becker - totally matches the car interior and works really well - I have the phone kit, ipod kit and the one with satnav and I'm really pleased with it's traffic-rerouting definately would have missed a flight last week if it had not routed me around a blocked motorway leg.

[FONT=arial"][:)]Hi, I have a 1994 993 and the factory fitted radio is a Blaupunkt London RMD 42 Radio/CD. However whilst the radio & CD work OK, the display panel does not function. In order to keep the originality of the car, I have been looking for a replacement for some time. As of yet I have not come accross anything on ebay.
Does anyone know where a radio of this age can be repaired?

Michael.

Well, if somebody else doesn't start up a business converting old analogue head units to DAB capable, I think I may have to myself! The problem is that ALL the aftermarket DAB-capable head units look ghastly in a 993. Pure Highway (or similar) is the short-term alternative, but there must be a way of adding a module in the glove-box with a hard-wired input into a Becker head-unit.

P.S. Am about to put a Becker Cascade Pro (and iPod cable) into my 993, for SatNav, Bluetooth and iPod - any suggestions as to the best installer for the job? I'm in South London.

ROW cassette/radio Beckers for the 993 are cr11, cr21, cr31
and the CD version: cdr21
USA version of the CD one (cdr21) was cdr210 and I am not sure it is compatable in UK
I got a cr21 on ebay
expect to pay £50-£150 and only appear once very few months on ebay
Watch out for the cr22, it was post 993, lots on ebay but screen is not visible by the driver of 993 and is also a very tight fit on the 993, best avoid it, not original
