I've only had my 1989 S2 a while, just had all the belts done and had the cylinder head re-furbished by Hartech, they said the re-furb will possible release a bit more power as the compression ratio is slighly increased. If I want to release more power from this engine what performance chip do I choose ? Ebay dealers sell a wide range from so called racing chips from the US to the Superchips brand. I need some advice as to which to have fitted and what are the realistic performance performance do I get if fitted above the standard 212bhp. Ive already fitted a performance exhaust system and cold air induction system. Any advice please from members who may have had performance chips fitted please. Thanks Colin

I had a promax chip fitted. It did have the desired effect of better power through the revs and subsequently more fun to drive. But I dont think has given me buckets more power. There was a thread on this not long ago http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=315940 . It will be interesting to see the results from the rolling road in a few weeks. So keep an eye out for that.

It's an often discussed topic and we shall see some real results from some real S2's at the Dyno Day in October but I think you will be lucky to see a 1 or 2 bhp increase in peak power but may see more power available at lower revs. For example the factory Dyno sheets show 160 bhp at 4000 rpm, a good chip may see you have 170bhp at 4000rpm
Is anyone so closely in tune with their vehicle to notice this change, or is it merely the placebo effect of having spent £100 on a go faster goodie [] I would be interested to see a blind test with one car driven by the same person on two occasions but not knowing if he has a standard chip or an aftermarket?
No I don't mean we put Oli in a blindfold and send him down the A45 [8|]

Hi All,
If anybody wants to try a 944S2 chip on the day - a chip can be sent to you on a 'Try or Buy' agreement basis. No charge (unless you decide to keep it).
After fitting, you will notice more difference driving the car and results are varaible (due to age and wear on what is now at least a 16 year old car). A dyno run is done at full throttle - hence will not show any differences applied to the idle or 3D partial map. Peak power gains will be moderate - don't expect much more than 5 to 10bhp (we have seen higher - and lower). You can download the fitting instructions at http://www.promaxmotorsport.com/instructions/promax_performance_chip_installation_guide.pdf
It's a zero risk way of trying if interested. Further details here: http://www.promaxmotorsport.com/promaxchip.htm
NOTE: dyno results may not give such an indicator as actually driving the car.
If you want to try one (944S2, 944 8v, 924S) Please get in touch before hand so I can send you the chip and the 'try or buy' agreement (as I am not 100% certain I can make it there on the day).
Regards,
Andrew

This Could Be Interesting....as I have An 88(E) 924S.......But 10BHP isn't Much...is it?
I really wouldn't get hung up about HP gains, a good chip will make a much bigger difference to the driving experience than is measureable this way. I've always found they give smoother transitions of throttle openings and more immediate responses making the car feel much more modern.
I don't know which one of you two I hate the most ... Mr Smith for the suggestion, or Mr McNulty for being so keen on watching. []ORIGINAL: pauljmcnulty

... I am seriously contemplating cycling there. More CO2 friendly, dont'cha know?
Oli.
Edited to add a smiley. Although I'm not so sure ...
