which spanner....

pub quiz.....can anyone tell me the correct size spanner to remove the front flexihoses from an '86 951 please???
 
oh the old classics had to come out didnt they??

I once managed to send my mate (a sparkie by trade) to our local Spar for a "solar-powered torch"

Not only did he return clueless to my gag, but had waited 10 minutes for the lady behind the counter to check out in the stock room for him!!!

That is like the old joke about the Irishman that invented a solar powered torch.
Funny until someone actually invented one.

Heard a tale once about an apprentice in a garage that was told to top up a VW Beetle's radiator. Filled the engine up with water via the oil filler. One knackered car!

My first proper job was at 13 years old working in an old-school hardware shop.

Yes, they asked me for a glass hammer and a sky hook....[&:]

More worrying, I was put in charge of plugging every bulb into a threadbare holder to test it....[8|]
 
BACK TO THE TOPIC IN HAND ... When I took the brake lines off the back of my S2, I found that the connectors into the calipers were fractionally smaller than 14mm, so used an old imperial brake spanner I had lying around that worked out to be a few thou' smaller than 14mm.

Take care there - you don't want to be rounding those things off.

Brake spanners are not as thin as ordinary spanners, usually twice as thick with the full hex end slotted to go over brake pipes etc.

My advice from working on an S2 and Turbo over numerous years, don't even think about doing anything with the brake pipes WITHOUT a proper brake spanner as described above, like a ring spanner with a gap in it. If you don't you'll very easily take the corners off the soft corroded unions....
