Which tracker to go for?

Hey everyone,

Getting a 19 Cayenne S collected next week and my insurance has a condition that a tracker needs to be fitted.

Which one do I go for? Any recommendations?

Based in North London if it's of any help.

Thanks,
Chris.

It’s worth double checking that it hasn’t already got one fitted it may only be a case of reactivating. If not, most insurance companies tend to stipulate a CAT 5 or CAT 7. Seven normally includes a phone app, loss of signal, geo fencing and 24hr monitoring. Whereas five (the more expensive one) tends to come with all the same benefits, but you can add items such as a key tag, however both will still allow the car to start. If this is a concern you could also think about adding an immobiliser so no card/tag no start.

Regardless of whichever you choose don’t forget both will be subject to a subscription charge. When I had my CAT7 recently installed I paid for three years in advance which although I probably won’t have the car by then saved me a rather big chunk of money. Sorry I know it’s all a bit confusing so speak with your local auto electrical dealer I’m sure they’ll be a lot more informative than me, but as Greenman says before you do anything make sure you double check what your insurance company stipulates.

Hope this helps.
Greg.

Greg, thank you so much for taking the time for such a thorough answer.

Indeed, insurance has asked for a CAT 5 one. I am looking at S5 and S5+ ones, with the later having the immobiliser. I think I read somewhere that the ones with the immobiliser affect the Porsche warranty but can't remember exactly where (so I may be talking bs here).

I was wondering though if you had a company that you've used and would recommend

I used a company called Autosounds up in the North East, long established and have done work for me before. They advised me to go for a Global Telemetrics subscription and after checking their glowing reviews signed on the dotted line. You can find out more about them here.

Thanks, will check it out

I have recently insured my new e-hybrid with Admiral and they do not require a tracker. I have checked this with them many times and they keep confirming that it is not required. I admit this is strange as most others wanted one. I am minded to have one installed anyway for peace of mind. My OPC strangely doesn’t seem to know if one is already fitted as standard.

Thanks for the reply Andrew. Your last sentence is interesting as the dealership I bought the car from didn't know but I found one driver card in the car (the other one is missing) and the OPC confirmed that I do have one installed.

Just need to pay the subscription and the pairing.
