Which Turbo?

My 993 cab has been gone about a month now and I'm really suffering from noporscheitis.

So - I've always fancied a Turbo or an RS. My mate had an awesome 964RS and friend has a drop dead gorgeous 993RS but I feel an RS is better placed on the track and don't fell I'd get to exploit it enough.

A turbo will hopefully give me the performance with a few more 'creature comforts' and fulfill that 1980's bedroom wall poster fantasy! (Still talking cars here mind!)

So Which Turbo?
1. Don't think money is going to stretch to a 993 T4 at the moment
2. 3.3 LHD would be nice as I've never had a left hooker
3. 3.6 LHDwould fulfill rare value smugness

So guys which turbo, and what should I expect to pay for a decent 3.3 or 3.6 in LHD?

Is the premium worth the extra for RHD - is the driving position and set up is a bit better in LHD anyway?
 
Just my personal view, but I would always buy the very best normally aspirated 911 I could.

Any turbo of uncertain pedigree could prove very costly to run.
 
ANY 911 of uncertain pedigree can be a source of significant financial outlay - not just the Turbo!
To answer the original query; it all depends on your budget. There are some surprisingly affordable and desireable 930 and 964 turbos out there - and if you could genuinely live with LHD, there are some bargains to be had (which reflects the difficulty - warranted or not - of selling left hookers in this country).

I have an original 930 RHD 1987 - real fun but a handful.

If i were you I would probably look for a turbo 2 though - better handling and abs/power steering etc.

The 3.6 is a super car but not much available below (30-35k)

But if you want a real thrill get a 930!!
 
You're right John, it was wrong of me to intrude on this forum with such a simplistic remark.

However, the tone of Jason's post reminded me of the lhd 3.6 turbo that Autocar bought from Germany some years ago. They were full of glee at their initial saving, but got their fingers burnt with huge maintenance bills. On their admission, they would have been better off buying an earlier rhd car of better known provenance.

Can't really offer much help as to which turbo to go for, as I've only ever driven my own so have nothing to compare.
Needless to say that I absolutely love it. Such a thrill to drive or just sit in with it ticking over with the windows, sunroof open. I agree with timc's comment about a T2 with the ABS but think you get a much more involved drive without the power streering as you really feel part of the car.
Beware though that whatever you decide on you'll be addicted and I reckon it won't be long before your looking to get even more power from it...! [;)]

Thanks for the posts guys.

Having had a few 911s already I'm well aware that any 'wrong' 911 could really hurt my pocket.

I still miss my 89 SSE Cab but just wonder if going back to a 930 having had a 993 I might find it a little 'heavy'. I remember first time I drove the 993 thinking it was like a feather compared to my previous 911s.

I might just have to try a few out - do the 964 turbo versions suffer from any reliability (engine wise) issues more than the 930?

My LHD 1995 911 3.6 Turbo is beautiful, extremely quick, and a pleasure to own and drive. I would definitely recommend one. I've had it regularly serviced by a Porsce specialist (Redline Racing North East) and it has never let me down. It's got 40k miles on the clock, and I've owned it for 2.5 years. If I was selling it I would be looking for ~ 31K. Hope that helps
