Which tyre manufacturer

About to order two new rear tyres for a 987 Boxster. Any recommendations on which tyre manufacturer I should use? Currently shod with Continentals.

Michelin PS4's seem to be the most popular choice on Boxa.net . Very pleased with them on mine.

Chris,

As Adrian says the Michelin PS4S appears to be flavour of the month but they now offer a PS5 [but not yet a PS5S], and the latest Continental Sport Contact 7s are reviewed very favourably.

Jeff

Edit: Although they have their detractors it would seem that Pirelli have improved their P-Zero offering, and as a Club member there’s a voucher scheme available, the value of which depends upon the tyre size and the number of tyres purchased.

The official Porsche line is that you must fit tyres from the same manufacturer and same 'N' rating all round - just sayin' 😇

That is particularly important if you have (or may want in the future) Porsche Approved Warranty. It's a condition of the contract (or being accepted for it) that the vehicle is to Porsche spec, even if the tyres themselves aren't covered by it.

Tyres are a personal choice most stick with N rated on new models.
On my Cayman s sport I have PS4s but
N rated on my Macan & wifes Boxster GTS

The only problem with seeking N-rated tyres on an older car like the 987 is that choice is very restricted and the tyres are old technology compared with the current offerings. For instance looking on Blackcircles it appears that the only N-rated Michelin tyre available is a PS2 [we’re now at PS5] and the only other N-rated tyre seems to be a Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetric [we’re now at Assymetric 6], although I suspect that the Porsche dealers could have alternatives.

I had the same dilemma and eventually fitted N2 rated Michelin PS2s:

I previously had N0 rated Bridgestones. For normal brisk road driving, I could not say that one is better than the other. I would always go with N rated and look at the other ratings, especially wet weather braking. I use Kwikfit online to compare tyres because they give details of OE approvals as well as the economy and wet weather ratings. At the moment, it looks like the Pirelli P0 is the best, and cheapest, N2 rated tyre for wet braking.

According to https://www.tyreleader.co.uk/tyres-advices/porsche-approved-tyre, N rated tyres differ from non-N in that
"Porsche approved tyres feature a reinforced radial structure along with more rigid sidewalls. Taken together, these characteristics prevent tyre deformation, even at high speeds."
