I think the S02s are still available in N-rated guise but that may only be in 18" sizes. The 225/40/18 and 265/35/18 are approved for the Boxster and are certainly still listed by www.mytyres.co.uk. I couldn't find any 17" S02s on the site though.
I've got 18" S02s on my car so I can't give you any authoratative suggestions on alternatives although lots of 964 owners seem to go with Continentals or Michelins. Personally I'm not a fan of Pirellis, but each to his own.

Thans Dave but mine are ye olde 16"![]
See my comment in the other tyre choice thread, not many suggestions (only one) Toyo Proxis anyone?
Am I just being biased because they are not the Pirelli/Bridgestone auto choice, can cheaper really be better when you are taking tyres?
This is interesting/useful stuff so I hope this thread doesn't peter out like the other one. [8|]

I too had the same concerns when i was recommended the Toyos. I had always had Pirelli, Yokohoma or Michellin tyres on my cars over the years. However I have to say that on the 964, I have not yet found a better tyre.I've used them on both road and track and they have performed very well and they wear alot better than the P Zeros I previously had.

I can't remember the sizes for 16s (mine are 17s) so don't know if you can get these for them?
I love the Toyo R888s I have on my track wheels....great grip and last much longer than any road tyre. But the trip to and from the track is a PIA because they whine like mad! []

Just to confirm, we are talking Toyo Proxis and they come in standard 16" sizes?
Aren't they...........Japanese....[]

Piers,
just to throw the bridgestones back into the equation, I recently bought some 205/55/ 16's (S02-N3) to go on the front of my C4. £91 fitted each. (I have the 16" D90's)
cheers

I presume you are happy with these? Your C4 would have different handling characteristics to my C2 though.
Toyo better than Pirelli then, and what about the Bridgestones?
Bridgestone??????????Toyo???????????Pirelli???????????[][][]
Mind you, a lot depends on availability[8|]
I decided to match up the S02's and see how they felt beofore I changed brands, so I will have to report back at a later date.
The one thing I will say is that the front end does feel better with the S02's on, but that could just be in my mind...

I must say that I have not really pushed the car yet! I got the car with S02's recently fitted to the rear and conti's on the front. the backs were a bit noisy and I looked into changing to another brand, as the fronts needed changing, but melv and others at the porsche & polo day recommended getting matched tyres all round as a Priority!

I don't think it's on your mind at all. Matching tyre patterns all round is very important for the handling/safety of the car hence why the other guys advised you to get them changed. According Porsche guidelines it's even more important on a C4 so that the 4WD system works correctly.

Don't forget that fresh rubber will always feel better than worn rubber. Also, as stated, matching tyres all round is very important too.
its good to know its not just me! I have a half day instruction on track (in my car) with driverskills to take in the next month or so, so looking forward to finding out properly how the C4 handles[] then hopefully onto some kind of trackday to see if I enjoy it.
