i was thinking of replacing rears with the so2 as on yhe front, what do you think of 34lb tyre pressure ? also what do you think of having nitrogen filled tyres ?
Have a peek at www.mytyres.com where I have just bought a pair of rears Hankook Ventus Sport K104 255-40- ZR17 for £70.50 incl VAT & postage; to match my fronts which are hardly worn after 8000miles. You must pay a fitter they will put you in touch in yr area costing maybe £6 to £8 all balanced per tyre. I have these already on the rear having had a full set to start with and have covered 5600 miles so far using under 4mm out of the original 8mm that I measured at new so can probably go another 2000 or in my case 9 mths to a year quite safely. I have bought now to ensure similsrity of tread pattern. I think a lot of balls is talked about the necessity of only fitting N validation tyres at £140 or more + Why is this deemed a good idea? These Korean Hankook Tyres are rated up to 186 MPH by international testing standards (see the web site "further details") & the brand have a vy good competition racing pedigree too. I am not a cheapskate but in my experience these are the best buy taking into consideration that most driving is less than 186 MPH on our roads, or anywhere, & even on any test days too? What's the general opinion? Yours ever Michael Neilan
Further info re Hankook Ventus Sport K104 205-55-ZR17 fronts & 255-40-ZR17 rears. As far as insurance goes the ZR rating covers the matter. N has nothing to do with it. N only indicates having passed different but not compulsory test by Porsche & perhaps other HP car makers. They cannot & would not want to test them all that are on the market worldwide & major brands have an interest in pretending that N justifies bigger prices I guess.
Squirrelly? Do they have a long bushy tail and go for your nuts?[]
No, but seriously, what I would like to find is a tyre that gives the grip we all expect, but actually gives you much better miles too (which = value)!
I had Contis on a 924 Turbo before ad they were excellent. How are your prized Contis on wear rate @ 993 sizes?

ok so if ones after your nuts, is the s02 a reasonably good tyre or what ?
& what of air or nitrogen filled tyres ? & is 34lb preasure a bit low ?
what are your thoughts on that ?

You'll still get a million different answers ... but i'll start
All IMO.
Yes S02 is a reasonably good tyre. I run them on 17s on my 964 and will probably change to them on 993 when the 'orrible Contis that came on the car run out (see I don't like Contis but many others do ... Porker993 above for example).
Air filled is fine. Forget Nitrogen. If it costs like £1.50 a tire then why not but it won't make any difference.
I run my 17s at the factory recommended 36 all round. Many run slightly lower.

I agree with the comments about contis, my C4 was bought with them fitted all round, had problems with the back end grip in the wet, changed them for Mich Pilot Sports which have impressed me with there superior grip, cannot wait to change the fronts but they dont seem to want to wear out. I normally run 17" wheels at 36psi cold, but its twitchie with the cooler weather, so I've dropped down to 34psi, the grip is more sure footed and the ride nicer. Anyone carried out any experimenting with winter tyres for cold wet weather.

I ran Conti's as a road tyre and then thought I'd have a change to Rossos. I'm going back to Conti's - don't like the Rossos.
I bought a set of track wheels that had Conti's on that were brand new and so far they've done five days on track, two of them with a racer behind the wheel sliding the car around for fun. They've also done road mileage to and from trackdays and they're now about fifty percent worn! They're excellent in the wet and really progressive at the limit, unlike the Rossos which grip, grip, grip and then suddenly let go! They're also quieter and don't have the pressure variation that the Rossos have.
Conti's will be my road tyre of choice from now on and I might go for the Toyo R888 as a track tyre - just for fun, you know! [8D]

I'm being a bit naughty and experimenting with their 215/45/17. The rear's will be the standard 255/40/17 which Toyo have a fitment for in the R888.
Don't know why they don't produce a 205/50, but a conversation with Toyo technical gives me hope all will be well! I'll keep you posted.

Hi,
We had this conversation a while ago,and after some enquires and a bit of maths 225/45 should be no problem.
As long as the diameter is within 4mm or so( which is what you would get when the rear tyres wear more than the front)
This is well within the tolerances of manufactures figures.
Not sure about the 215s though,i cannot see it being life threatening, but it is advisable to get as close as you can and maybe for some people just to get the correct tyres for piece of mind.

got the bridgestone so2 rear tyres fitted nearly 3 weeks ago, but not been able to do much mileage as yet to see how these behave, but so far done only 60 miles so a bit of a way to go as yet, i went for air in the finish and 36lb they seem ok at the moment but will let you know when ive used them a bit more.
