What do you have now? If you need all fours then I assume the rears were changed half way through the life? It all depends on what you want out of your tyres e.g.. do you want the most quiet one; good on handling; ones that give the best mileage, etc... For 18" N rated tyres you have a choice of Bridge, Conti, Mich, Pirelli and Yoko only.

I 'm running Dunlop at the moment
My choice is either Pirelli or Conti
I do alot of miles, motorway and country lanes and drive moderately most of the time [;)]
which make do you recommend and why

Thanks

I now use Mich, had Pirelli P-Zeros before but the mileage on those was very poor (I used to do motorway commute to work daily); Michelin have been great plus I get them from Costco and their prices are pretty reasonable. A lot of people complain about noise of the Michelin, yes, the pirelli were quieter but Mich are not that loud... sorry, no experience with Contis...

oh the other things I didn't like about the Pirelli P-Zeros is the P-Zero label is stuck on the tyre and it either comes off or hangs about when the tyre gets old... [:(]

Avoid Pirelli P Zero - too soft a compound and dreadful tyre life..

Michelin Pilot Sport - good wet and dry, best for mileage, but also most expensive

Continental Sport Contact - reasonable in the dry, relatively quiet tyre, but in my experience their wet weather performance drops off dramatically as they wear

Dunlop SP9090 - excellent in the wet, and dry, quiet and decent mileage - normally around 20% cheaper than Michelin - not the most widely fitted tyre by the factory, but none the worse for that

Yokohama AVS Sport - awesome grip wet and dry, noise levels OK - mileage in the middle ground, expect 20% less than the Michelin, slightly less miles than the Conti. Not very good in snow, but then none of these tyres are designed for it !!

Given your motoring habit, i'd stick with the Dunlops unless you have an issue with them.

I'm a believer in the michelins - never got less than 15K out a set of rears with them, grip and feel is superb in all conditions. Pirelli - don't last half as long and while grip is fine, feel is rubbish. I need a new set and will be returning to Michelins - more expensive but you get your money back in duration.

I have the Michellins and am very happy with grip and feel, but mileage has not been a strong point (17,000 kms).

I need to renew too, is it OK to have different brands front and rear?

A big no, no, as far as Porsche rule book goes and I would stick to the same tyres model all round i.e. all of them to be the same N rating number. Would your insurance company be concerned? Just a question, I don't know how picky they are in Aus; how about Porsche warranty?

Having said that, I have no experience of this but have read on forums that as long as they are the same on each axle and you don't track the car or drive like you stole it on the road then you will be okay but will feel a difference in handling.

17000Kms (10,000miles) is low but not shocking, that is what I used to get on the Pirellis; if that is what you are getting on Michs then I think everything else will be pretty much the same and something like Pirelli will be even worse.

Have just made the switch on all 4 tyres from Conti's to Michelin PS2's and blimey - it's like a totally different car! Handling is amazing, grip is unbelievable, and in my opinion worth paying extra for.

I'm assuming you are talking 987 model here, as PS2s aren't approved for the 986.

I'm very happy with Michelin PS2. Dealer wanted £350+ for rears and £260 for fronts: Alba tyres did exactly the same tyre for £195 fronts and £220 rears, after haggling, plus filled with nitrogen for free. Interesting that nitrogen did improve the handling when I had it done initially without changing tyres - a small but definite change. (19 inch carrera S wheels on 987 - sorry no idea about 18s)
Joe.
